This was in recent talks since December, but now it's confirmed, so I'm starting a thread for it here.
The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing an animated Spider-Man comedy movie for Sony. It's due for 2018.

I'm honestly surprised Disney ruled Marvel hasn't released more animated comic book movies in theaters. I hope it is great...and not CG.
Miles Morales may be the focus of the movie. (http://heroichollywood.com/miles-morales-2018-animated-spider-man-film)
Incredible news! I hope the movie is great. Makes me want to read his comics.

I've read a recent issue, and it's full Bendis, for better and worse.
So it turns out they're not directing the movie. (http://variety.com/2016/film/news/sony-plans-animated-ghostbusters-tv-show-1201799530) They're still writing the script, though.
Thankfully, the director is still a good choice: Bob Persichetti, whose previous works include Puss in Boots and The Little Prince.
I'm even more interested now. Just make this not CG and it'll be my 2nd most anticipated animated film.
Alex Hirsch will help write it. (http://www.thewrap.com/alex-hirsch-write-spider-man-animated)
Oh holy crap, YES!
Hope this leads to more work for him and Lord/Miller.

I gotta get me that blu-ray. Thirty minutes of additional footage, even if most of it is just in the storyboard stage, is crazy cool. I've seen a few of the clips thrown around on Twitter and they look real fun.
The sequel is set to release April 8, 2022. (https://twitter.com/SpiderVerse/status/1190373194374377472)
