Title: AR's Top Video Games Talkback!
Post by: Spark Of Spirit on December 25, 2012, 12:20:15 AM
We got a new feature up just in time for the holidays! (http://animationrevelation.com/readables/?p=842)

This has been a LONG time in the works since we've long been tired of the terrible lists most sites put out on the subject, we hope you enjoy our take on the medium.

I say that this list is already better than G4's list. Them Animation Revelation folks sure now their video games. Not that I have any bias reason to agree with these choices. They are just great. Its not like I actually had a part in making this list or anything like that to influence my perception of it....:sly:

However, I do think the first ten show where the rest of the list might go since certain games are a LOT lower than most mainstream sites would put them.

But seriously, those are great games.

Part 3 is up! (http://animationrevelation.com/readables/?p=869)

We hope to have all the entries up to 50 up by New Years. Comments?

Oh man, I'm impressed with how my PS IV entry turned out. I thought it would come off as too wooden and miss the point.

I wonder what Lord Dalek would say about it.

I'm still uber-worried about how my remaining entry would hold out. I actually might what to rewrite it if that's possible.
Title: Re: AR's Top Video Games Talkback!

Crisis averted. I think my final entry is passable so no need for change.

I want to read the Gunstar Heroes entry now since I've recently beaten the game. 2nd time overall, first time with co-op. I can appreciate the game's spot on the list now since I got to relive my favorite parts and see how much more fun it is to play with another person.

Part 4 is up (http://animationrevelation.com/readables/?p=902)

One more until we hit the top 50!

Any comments?

The list still looks great, so far. Its a shame that nobody is taking notice to it and commenting on it, but if more people were looking at it, we'd know doubt get a ton of heat for featuring plenty of quality games that a lot of mainstream gamers probably have never heard of before, and they'd get pissed that we put some big AAA titles so low on our list, and that we completely ignore certain others which I won't say since I don't want to spoil the list.

Anyone who actually gives a shit about gameplay in their games, though, should find our list to be fairly well thought-out, and I like the unique touch our list has by including deserving games in as entries that most other lists from big sites would downright ignore.

Yeah, I'm also disappointed at the lack of activity we've gotten compared to previous features.

But nonetheless, I do really like our list. What other place would even think of including Sunset Riders? IMO, it is one of the best games Konami has ever made.

Yeah, I can't think of a place to share this other than tz, who just doesn't seem to care.
Title: Re: AR's Top Video Games Talkback!
Post by: Foggle on December 30, 2012, 03:20:46 PM
Yeah, I don't know where else we could share it. But really, the only article we've ever done that's gotten popular is the Top 65 Cartoons list. Though the MLP fanfic commentary got its fair share of comments as well.

Ugh, tz crashes a lot now. I had a really good reply to Grave, but the page crashed before I could post it, and the site wouldn't let me save it, so I just gave up. It also crashed on me when I was writing a post in the mod board. Twice.

This is why Harley didn't want to allow quick replies, and why we won't.

LOL at defunctzombie thinking that we're trying to "advertise" our site. It looks as though someone doesn't want to admit that TZ is pretty much just at death's door and hardly anyone who'd find a list like this interesting even posts there anymore.
Title: Re: AR's Top Video Games Talkback!
Post by: Avaitor on December 30, 2012, 05:39:14 PM
To be fair, I do think that if this list was made by pretty much anyone else, the mods wouldn't be so strict on double-posting.

But a list by IGN is A-Ok. Give me a break. One of you guys try to start a conversation or something, I'm definitely not going there again.

A few years ago a thread like that would be flooded.
Title: Re: AR's Top Video Games Talkback!
Post by: Avaitor on December 30, 2012, 05:43:54 PM
Maybe even a year ago. ;)

But really, has it been that long since G4's list? I'm pretty sure that already hit 2 pages by the time it went this far into their show.

I'd say something on there, but since I've never really posted much on TZ, it actually would look like advertising if I joined in.

I still think she hates Kiddington for that one time he talked about how much of a brown noser she was. In fact, I forgot most of the details of it. I think it was over how monotone the site has became. Either that or a sandwich. I'm pretty sure it was over one of those 2.  :awesome:

Anyway, good list so far. I really like how guys had Donkey Kong 94 on it. Maybe it's my nostalgia or the fact that I've been replaying it on the 3DS, but I say the game play does hold up.

I just love making Mario stand on his hands. It's a free shield from falling debris and it makes a funny noise. It's a guilty pleasure for me.

As for the others, I love how Mega Man 2 and 3 have equal billing. They're both pretty good games, though Mega Man 2 becomes a cake walk when you decide to abuse Metal Man's Weapon.

Yeah, and it kills Metal Man in two hits. Most unbalanced (but awesome) weapon ever.  ;D

Wow, so she just flat out locks up the thread completely? Whereas with the Top 65 list nobody had any problem with it whatsoever? What a fucking bitch. Seriously.

Man, I am so done with that place. Can't even believe I've wasted as much time with it as I already have.

Post by: Kiddington on December 30, 2012, 10:21:13 PM
Yeah, it's pretty well established that we're not well liked around those parts. I remember Chalmey got into it with the mods a couple of times in the past about the way he "promoted" the site in his sig.

Oh well. I thought about demanding an explanation, but honestly, why even bother? I have better things to worry about than some shitty ass, near-dead forum that I even don't care about anymore. The place is just a joke at this point; really not worth my time.

Its not like we lost anything in the process of the topic getting locked. Nobody was commenting on the list anyways. Like I said, nobody there who would be interested in a very different top 100 list like ours would be on that site anymore. Even I never bother with that site anymore aside from that one Hunter X Hunter talkback thread on the anime board.

I am legitimately surprised at Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic CD being so low on these lists. Usually a Sonic game gets in within the top 40.

Also good call on naming Double Dash the best in the franchise. Too many people automatically jump on Mario Kart 64's dick even though its aged even worse than the SNES version.

And props to those that remembered Vagrant Story existed. I remember EGM only gave it a tiny mention in one of their holiday issues back in 2001 and I could never find it stocked anywhere aside from KB Toys.

MK64 was never in the running, for what it's worth. But Sonic CD was hard to fight for since most here haven't played it and I'm the only one on the staff that would rank it really high.

Guys, I'm not allowed to talk about what happens in the mod board, but I will say that the site looks down on self-promotion. Even though Kidd may not be on the staff, he is a frequent poster, and did contribute to the list, so him starting the thread counts as self-promotion. We got more of a pass with the animated series thread since we made an appeal to Harley, and it was considerably more active in the first place.

I'll make an appeal to Harley, but at the same time, is it worth it?

No, it really isn't. Nobody was responding anyway; hell, I even had to, GOD FORBID, double-post just to remind people that the thread still exists (and I will never understand why double-posting bothers these people so much; they're like the only forum I've ever been to that actually loses sleep over such a simple act).

Really, I'm kinda glad I don't have to go back and update something that nobody even cares about anyway. Might as well just let sleeping dogs lie at this point.

Mario Kart 64 aged badly the second it came out. Also, kart games are supposed to be timeless so there's that. :D

Just started keeping up with this list. Great job to everyone who's involved in it! I think the only change I'd make is disconnecting Mega Man 3 from its predecessor, as I truly believe that 2 is on whole other level compared to the rest of 1-10. But overall, excellent list so far. Looking forward to the rest.

Usually I tend to wait until the list is done before I make any type of comment, but I figured I'd chime in for now. I'll admit that it is an interesting list. Let's me know what kind of crowd I'm dealing with (Retro gamers). Don't have anything against it, but I can't say I'm into the old stuff anymore. At least nothing older than PS1 games.

I will say this though. If I were to ever see a list that did not have Super Mario Bros 1 or Legend of Zelda: OoT in the top 10, I'd be much more interested, but that'll be the day.
Title: Re: AR's Top Video Games Talkback!
Post by: Foggle on January 02, 2013, 10:01:06 AM
The list does tend to lean toward older games, but that's just because there are more of them to choose from. ;) There's plenty of new(ish) stuff on there as well! I'm not really a retro gamer myself, I just play anything that seems fun.

Don't get me wrong about the retro games. Even though I don't particularly care for them these days I still respect them, let alone, respect the list (Just like I respect any other list). Not to mention I understand that considering we're talking about top games here, it's bound to have quite a few of the older games on them.
Title: Re: AR's Top Video Games Talkback!
Post by: Spark Of Spirit on January 02, 2013, 02:31:10 PM
I'm a retro gamer mainly, but we tried to keep the list as balanced as possible. But since there are more older games than modern games, that's pretty hard to do.

But we did try to keep it wider than most game sites do.

Man, these AR people are a bunch of lazy ass-holes! They haven't updated this list in months. I bet they're just too scared to get criticized for how bad they know the 2nd half of their list will be.

And, man, those first 50 entries we got so far are terrible! First of all, Call of Duty and Gears of War are WAY too low! Those are awesome games with amazing stories and graphics, and they are WAY better than all of this old shit that these AR faggots are ranking on this list. Old games suck, but a bunch of nostalgic games just rank them really high on lists like these just because they think you have to respect classics or some bull-shit like this. Fuck Mario and Sonic! They can't partake in completely scripted movie-like set-pieces in the fashion that Drake from Uncharted can.

I swear, if these people don't at least have the sense to rank a God of War game in the top 20, then they have no sense at all. Hell, who am I kidding, they probably ranked some crappy Japanese action games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta really high. That shit is garbage. It doesn't have provacative story-lines like God of War, and its characters aren't as deep and well-written as Kratos, who is one of the best and most bad-ass video game characters of all time. But, whatever, you can't expect any of these idiot writers from AR to see that. Well, there's at least some hope for them if they don't rank that Ninja Gaiden crap on the 2nd half of this list. Its bad enough that they ranked that putrid NES game, but at least that was below CoD and GoW, whereas that crappy 3D game made by Itagaki is so damn hard that its nearly impossible. Its just such a cheap game that cheats to win and everyone who says they are good at it are lying. All the videos online of pros beating that game without a sweat are just using some hack or something. Hard games should not exist. How is it any fun when your enemies actually try to fight back and oppose you? That's just stupid programming.

Oh, and what the fuck was that crap about Rocket Knight Asses or some fucking bull-shit like that. I haven't even heard of a game like that, AND its for an old and outdated system. What the hell is an obscure shitty game like that doing on a top 100 list, while good platforming games like Braid and Limbo are left out of the mix? I guess those games were just too complex and ingenious in design for these morons to handle.

Anyways, I've ranted on long enough. Post up the rest of the list, you dumb-asses. That way I can shit on it some more for how bad it is and how much I don't agree with any of it. Fuck you people. If I made a list for video games, it would be WAY better and more imaginative than this bull-shit.

If these guys rank God Hand on this list, then CLEARLY its just a joke list.

Also, one of the Dead Space games should be ranked on the list while Resident Evil 4 should not be included at all. Sorry, but Resident Evil 4 is immediately an obsolete game since you can't move and shoot at the same time.

And World of Warcraft should be ranked as the best game of all time. There's just nothing that can compete with it. So many people play it and its so damn addicting, so its just complete fact that its the best game ever made.

If I may take a crack at the top ten here are my predictions:

10) HEAVY RAIN: Move Edition
09) Call of Battlefield: Modern Duty of Honor 4: Black Ops
08) Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
07) Superman 64
06) Bubsy: Claws Encounter of the Furred Kind
05) Phil Fish
04) BUBSY 3D
03) Imagine Babiez
02) Try Not to Fart (Xbox Live Idie Game)
01) Mega Max X (the iOS version)

But, in all serious, if this list is ever finish I better see Deadly Premonition there or I JUST MIGHT :burn:

Even though I wrote some of the entries for the top 10, the highest part of our list has been kept secret from me this entire time. Which means, yes, they're going to fill in the blanks on my stock praise like Mad Libs. Here are my predictions for AR's greatest games of all time:

10. Spanish For Everyone
9. Rogue Warrior
8. wow.wad
7. Animal Soccer World
6. Fugitive Hunter: War On Terror
5. Candy Crush Saga
4. Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing
3. Frank's Adventure
2. The Maiden Rape Assault: Violent Semen Inferno
1. FarmVille
