A large portion of the series never did end up making it to DVD (notably the Johto League episodes), so... hey, this could be useful.

PKMN season 1 is one of the most nostalgic things ever for me.

Too big to fit on Netflix?

I'd get it if I had a smartphone, never did see every Sinnoh episode like I wanted to.

No Hoenn or Sinnoh no sale.

Oh who am I kidding, I always wanted to see just how badly they botched Unova's tournament.

Unova's tournament was already terrible. The dub didn't make it much worse.  :D

Post by: Daxdiv on March 01, 2014, 11:08:45 AM
I still can't get over that. Ash lost to a dumbass that thought the Unova league was in Johto, had 5 mons, thought he needed 7 badges to get into the league, then that fucker lost to a trainer whose main gimmick was using different evolutions of Eevee. I can at least forgive Ash for losing in Sinnoh, I mean, boy got beaten by a Darkrai and a Latios.

Still, I kind of wish Hulu would have more Pokemon related material to watch, even if it was on Hulu Plus, since all they have is the first season of Diamond and Pearl (The first 5 episode are free to all, everything else you need a Hulu Plus account) and All 4 parts of Origins.

I'd care more about that if Hulu was uploading subs too...but it's only the dub, and I can't stand TPCI's dub personally. Still, since I have Netflix, it's nice to know I can rewatch the Indigo League anytime I want, since my dad'll be lowering our cable package to the bare minimum pretty soon and I won't have Boomerang anymore after that.

There isn't a very good thread for this, so I'm going to put it here.

Tom Ruegger says Pokemon's success lead to the death of original WB cartoons (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2016-04-13/animaniacs-freakazoid-producer-credits-pokemon-for-wb-cartoon-decline/.101008). He says this is because it was so cheap to get and did so well, that the network thought all their shows should operate the same way.

While it isn't directly Pokemon's fault, it is undeniable there was a huge shift on the network after Pokemon's debut and initial popularity. It never really recovered from it.

Post by: Dr. Insomniac on April 13, 2016, 06:44:43 PM
That article feels clickbaity given it's mining a guy's Reddit AMA and that some people had already come to that conclusion regarding Pokemon ages back, but it's ANN so I shouldn't expect any more value from them.
Title: Re: Pokemon
Post by: Spark Of Spirit on April 13, 2016, 06:53:49 PM
Yep, it's clickbaity and some of the responses are, uh, "special", but seeing the central shift WB made away from its original properties with Pokemon which led to its original material suffering has his words striking the right note. WB at the end was pretty bad, though it wasn't Pokemon's fault. Sort of an inevitable outcome for the times.
Title: Re: Pokemon
Post by: Avaitor on April 13, 2016, 11:08:30 PM
It was bound to happen sooner or later. Jamie Kellner and some of the other people in charge of Kids WB! didn't really get most of their cartoons, which became evident by Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain and that failed attempt to combine these shows together.

If they didn't get the rights to Pokemon, the block would probably have been dedicated to lamer super hero shows to cash in on Timm and co's success. At least moreso, since they were already doing that with half their lineup in the early 00's anyway.

Disney has acquired the rights to Pokemon. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-11-17/pokemon-anime-moves-to-disney-xd-in-u.s-with-pokemon-sun-and-moon/.108938)

Every season of the anime so far and 15 of the movies (including the newest one) are moving to Disney XD next month.

Strange that CN would give up the franchise after airing it for over a decade. Well, hopefully Disney treats it better than they've been these past few years and puts it in a more watchable timeslot.

Especially because the Sun & Moon anime is awesome so far. May very well turn out to be the best Pokemon anime yet!

I'm not shocked by this at all. CN was dragging its kicking, screaming corpse for the past few seasons. It only seemed inevitable that they'd just give up on it altogether.

I wonder how CN will handle the rest of the episodes of XYZ, or if they even will at all. There's less than 10 episodes left and a few weeks to go.

EDIT: CN is just going to slowly trudge along on Saturdays till it's over.

:swoon: Really hoping they do this in the summer so I can actually watch some of it. But man, a 20+ day marathon? That's going to be insane.

I'm also excited for the new film (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be-zA7-lr_k). Mostly because of the nostalgia factor of seeing Kanto reanimated with modern visual aesthetics and the much improved animation the series boasts nowadays, but goddamn if hearing "Mezase Pokemon Master" play in that trailer doesn't get me hyped for it.

Disney is going to be shoving their asses in CN's face regarding Pokémon's treatment.

The XY/Z seasons (which happens to be where CN's run ends) will reair starting February 11 and will air 7 days a week. (https://twitter.com/nickandmore/status/820148259670921216)

Misty and Brock are finally making reappearances in the anime!

It's been over ten years since we last saw Misty, so I'm extremely excited for her episode. Brock coming back is cool too, but it's only been 4 years since we last saw him so I'm not quite as hyped. I'm hoping for the rest of Ash's former companions to have guest appearances in the future (they can leave Iris out though).

That movie must have really been popular. Glad to see they haven't forgotten their roots.

Yeah, I heard that at least near the ending credits of the movie, the part where they show off a teaser for the next one just had a message saying that a new Pokémon Movie will come out next year. Kinda makes me think that they're still debating on doing a straight Sun and Moon movie or another alternative retelling.

Still, interesting to see Brock and Misty back again. Outside of Movie 20, the anime really hasn't been hammering home the fact that it is 20 years old right now.

Aoi Yuki's probably stupidly busy anyways; considering she has a lead role in MHA to Symphogear to Futaba in Persona 5, etc.

I still can't believe this is real life. Also, I still can't believe there were people seething over Ash finally winning a league from the mainline game. A fun fact I found funny was that the Japanese VA for Ash was told from the beginning of SM anime that Ash would win. She laughed it off as a joke.
