There are a lot of awesome anime openings out there, but only one can be the best, and in this competition, we are going to determine which that is.

Like the Greatest Video Game Theme Ever Tournament, I decided not to use pictures for this competition, mostly because there really aren't enough pictures of certain openings and I don't want to make people pre-judge an opening they haven't seen based on a picture either. I will update this competition every day, but only if 4 people other than myself have cast votes, so please vote on these matches as much as possible.

Before we begin, I'd like to ask everyone to please watch every opening in a match before voting. It won't take a whole lot of time, and it's the fairest way of making votes in a round where you don't know some of the openings. Remember we are judging the openings, not the shows we are for, so even if an opening is from a series you don't particularly care for please still watch it.  :D

Now, without further ado, let's begin, shall we?

Round 1: Match 1

1. "One Day, One Dream" (InuYasha) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zn8znVHq9I
2. "Nazo [english dub]" (Detective Conan/Case Closed) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKTMaSShXBA
3. ""Sunny Shiny Morning" (Maison Ikkoku) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1uCHviHxAg
4. "Uragiri no Yuuyake" (Durarara!!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O9hRcIAza0

My Votes:

1. "One Day, One Dream" - Lots of great cuts here, especially the ones of Hakudoshi, Entei, and Sesshomaru. Even though the anime version is weak, this opening is just perfect for the Underworld arc.

2. "Uragiri no Yuuyake" - Fast paced, sounds cool, pumps you up. I don't need much more reason than that to put this second. I personally love that little glitchy effect that occurs in some of the movements too.

3.  "Sunny Shiny Morning" - Love the song and a lot of stuff here, but overall it's not as cool visually as DRRR!'s or IY's, so I'm going to have to put it third.

4. "Nazo" - Both english dub openings of Case Closed are rather nostalgic to me, but for me, this is probably the weakest of the four in this match, mainly because it just kinda ends, which is still a bit jarring and leaves me not as much after watching it as the other three do.

Durarara!!- Excellent animation, excellent music
Nazo- Nostalgic, even if nonsensical in English
Inu-Yasha- Excellent animation, forgettable music
Maison Ikokuu- Not bad, but doesn't really stand out to me in either animation or music

Results:

"One Day, One Dream" (InuYasha) - 11
"Nazo [english dub]" (Detective Conan/Case Closed) - 9
"Sunny Shiny Morning" (Maison Ikkoku) - 5
"Uragiri no Yuuyake" (Durarara!!) - 15

"Uragiri" and "One Day, One Dream" move on to the next round.

Round 1: Match 2

1. "The Sparkling Sky & Your Voice" (Ranma 1/2) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPBmXJJrj6U
2. "Now or Never" (Astro Boy (2003)) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_sLaUu7Mt8
3. "Rock the Planet" (Urusei Yatsura) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s71DYsMhPq8
4. Kizudarake no Eikou (Ashita no Joe 2) - http://www.crunchyroll.com/champion-joe-2/episode-1-and-i-am-back-650837

Now this is a great match!  I really like all these openings:

1. "Rock the Planet" - Aw yeah, I love this one. The references and animation here are awesome, and I can't get the song out of my head these days. I wish they used it for more episodes than they did. ROCK THE PLANET FOR EVERYONE!!!!

2. "Now or Never" - AB2K3 might not be very good, but this opening sure kicks ass. The animation during the sequence where Astro is flying around and all the rest of the main cast are following him is fantastic, as are the quick cuts highlighting Astro's battles with his former enemies. And that sequence that features all of Astro's human villains is sweet too.

3. "The Sparkling Sky & Your Voice" - I love how this opening shows Ranma embracing his girl-type form and taking joy in it's advantages. It's an aspect of his character that tends to get overlooked, and it also helps make this a pretty cute opening overall. Also, it's DoCo, so the song is a total earworm.

4. "Kizudarake no Eikou" - I really like this opening and song myself, but I also just personally care for the other three openings in this match much more.

Now, I best not see anyone skip this one. Give these openings a chance dammit!

Joe- Not a fan of the visuals, honestly, but I like the song itself
Ranma- Kind of catchy
Yatsura- Stands out in an odd but good way
Atom- Somehow, I don't think that Tezuka would approve of a rap number if he were alive to see this

Odd but good, that's UY in a nutshell.

Spark Of Spirit

1. "Rock the Planet" (Urusei Yatsura)
- Catchy song, good visuals, and nice end. This is my favorite of the four.

2. Kizudarake no Eikou (Ashita no Joe 2)
- Good song, killer bass, but the visuals really are boring even if they do work.

3. "The Sparkling Sky & Your Voice" (Ranma 1/2)
-The visuals are better in the first half, in my opinion, but the song itself is not bad. Not my favorite of the four, though.

4. "Now or Never" (Astro Boy (2003))
- Opposite of Joe's. I like everything except the song.
