Hey, I see that Iron Maiden won a Grammy tonight.  They beat Korn(they still make music?), Megadeth, Slayer, and Lamb of God.  I didn't watch the show(personally don't see why anyone would). but I checked the list of winners on the interwebz.

Yeah, either "El Dorado" or "Satellite 15" were nominated.

I wouldn't really care if they didn't win since the Grammys are worthless, but that's cool.

I know we're mostly rock fans, but I want to ask if you guys are into hip-hop. I'd make a thread if I didn't already make almost every other thread on this board.

Besides the basics that just about everyone else likes, (Run-D.M.C., Public Enemy, Outkast, Beastie Boys), I really dig alternative hip-hop. I think this is probably my favorite hip-hop album and song in general.

I mainly like those four that you mentioned(although Outkast to a somewhat lesser degree), but I do like the gangsta rap from N.W.A., Dr. Dre. Eazy E, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and Biggie.  I've also mentioned it/alluded to it that I'm a pretty big Eminem fan, especially The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, and The Eminem Show.  I also like a few odds and ends, artists that were big at one point but now are rather overlooked, like Arrested Development or Whodini.

Oh, and as far as contemporary hip-hop goes, I do like a few like Jay-Z, T.I., E-40, Country Grammar era Nelly, a little bit of 50 Cent and so on.

I love pretty much any hip-hop that isn't shit like Lil Wayne or Soulja Boy. :joy:

Arrested Development is pretty legit. I like them as well. And yeah, Eminem has some great stuff.

Forgot to add Jurassic 5, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest to my list. More goodies.

The best Eminem album was the first one because it was light on lame crossovers. I fucking hate crossovers, it feels cheap in music.

I most likely like classic hip hop or alternative, and hate gangsta rape.

I consider this to be the best hip hop song ever both expressing everything good about the genre while dumping on everything awful about it.

The excessive crossovers don't do much for me, either, and Eminem does overdo them. "Love the Way You Lie" is phenomenal, though.

Great song. I had to mention Jurassic 5 just before you posted, but they really were one of the best.

The Marshal Mathers LP was half crossovers which blew and half really good songs. It's a hard album for me to like.

But yeah, don't really like Gangsta because of how creatively bankrupt it sounds and how every talentless hack does it. It's always about the same things, the lyrics suck, and there's usually one annoying sample they milk throughout the song that doesn't fit right at all.
