"The spider spinning his web for the unwary fly. The blood is the life, Mr. Renfield."

Release Date: February 12, 1931
Studio: Universal
Director: Tod Browning
Aspect Ratio: 1.37 : 1
Starring: Bela Lugosi, Helen Chandler, David Manners

Plot Summary: After a harrowing ride through the Carpathian mountains in eastern Europe, Renfield enters castle Dracula to finalize the transferral of Carfax Abbey in London to Count Dracula, who is in actuality a vampire. Renfield is drugged by the eerily hypnotic count, and turned into one of his thralls, protecting him during his sea voyage to London. After sucking the blood and turning the young Lucy Weston into a vampire, Dracula turns his attention to her friend Mina Seward, daughter of Dr. Seward who then calls in a specialist, Dr. Van Helsing, to diagnose the sudden deterioration of Mina's health. Van Helsing, realizing that Dracula is indeed a vampire, tries to prepare Mina's fiance, John Harker, and Dr. Seward for what is to come and the measures that will have to be taken to prevent Mina from becoming one of the undead.

COMMENTS?

I don't know how many of you know this, but I am absolutely enamored with the Dracula mythology. While i'm not a huge fan of the stage production of the story, which this is an adaptation of, there is plenty of merit to be found here, from the cinematography, the classic spooky atmosphere, and of course, Lugosi's flawless take on the Count. I still recommend it today.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Lugosi's great of course, you can't go wrong with him. But the lack of music, and the static camera, do make this movie a bit slow. And despite what most fans think, I always believed this Renfield sucks.

But having said that, great movie.
