A lot of "faux retro" music completely misses the mark.

8-bit music was attempting to recreate pop songs from the 80s in order to hook people in. Most modern "retro" music just uses synth for bland compositions that are quite soon forgotten.

If you're composing music for a "retro" game, then it has to sound like this in at least some part. Wouldn't sound that out of place in a Sonic game, huh? Well that's the point.

Honestly, besides the whole faux sprites that don't look anything like video games before the Neo Geo, it's the lousy music I really find disappointing with a lot of indie games. Stop using the 8-bit and 16-bit eras as a crutch. They deserve better.
