Because last I checked, the Sailor Moon owners were very picky about the handling of their show, hence that dry spell a while ago when the series wasn't legally available in the US.

...and Viz released the series uncut and in full, and that was a decade ago, so it's not a problem anymore.

They have season 2. If they wanted season 1, they'll have to pony up some cash to Sentai.
Except hadn't DeMarco claimed (which I frustratingly can't find since he deleted his Twitter instead of leaving it dormant) that he tried to get Sailor Moon Crystal to no avail, even though Viz had it, meaning there is established difficulty more recent than a decade ago? And why would 200 episodes of a popular show from Viz be cheaper or easier to acquire than 13 episodes of a now mostly niche show from Sentai? Even if it was just the first season of SM, that's still 46. And I think even only a few months in, CN would have enough data to know if Rewind was worth it or not.

So much for Clownfish TV's prediction of CN getting shut down. Zaslav has pounded them, but they'd already be gone if that was going to happen.

That said, I do hope they do the right things with Toonami's lineup. Hopefully, they catch fire if they play their cards right.

Really stupid that this isn't a spin-off of the Ducktales reboot.

My guess is that it's only airing on Fridays as an experiment to see if this is worth replacing or complimenting Checkered Past. The CN shows are free for them to air, but these anime have to add up, and they may not think it's worth the investment if there isn't an audience right at the beginning.

The one, and admittedly good, advantage Toonami Rewind has is it that it's on hours when most of the target audience isn't asleep. But yeah, shows like DBZ, Sailor Moon, all of those 100+ episode shows would benefit more from weekday airings than just Friday. They'd be better off finding the 26-episode shows they used to air and rerunning those.

As for the Twitter departure, it might be a coincidence, but a few days before DeMarco left, I saw him get into a Twitter fight with some rando accusing him of being a hypocrite for being pro-shoplifting but anti-TV-piracy. And then DeMarco proceeded to namesearch this guy and yell at him. He's always had a bad habit of randomly namesearching people who didn't even @ him and whining about them on his Twitter, which always left me wondering why he's doing this instead of negotiating with Discotek or GKIDS for some anime to air, and I guess someone else at CN finally told him to stop it so he migrated to a smaller website.

It's pretty cool that they're able to expand beyond just Saturday, but only one other day a week while every slot is filled by 100+ episode shows? :whuh:

I get that it's a Rewind block to fuel the nostalgia crowd (and it's cool to finally see Sailor Moon again in uncut form), but if they're going to air super-long shows one day a week, it's just the Saturday problem all over again. If it expands to more weekdays, it might be more justified, but I think airing shorter shows would be better if it's going to stay in this format.

It's ironic because Jason DeMarco started a poll asking what shows the viewers would like to see on this Rewind block. Bro, every show is over 100 episodes. We won't be seeing anything else for at least a couple of years.

BTW, DeMarco recently closed his Twitter account. He's on Bluesky now.

First time they've aired the Viz Dub of Sailor Moon on Cartoon Network, right? Naruto is OK for now and I love how they give Dragon Ball the king treatment of an hour. Interesting that they decided to air it on Friday
