Since I've bailed on Rise of the Ronin (I've bailed on quite a lot this year so far). Just trying to find some smaller games to fit in between these large games I tend to play. Of the ones I've found more fitting to me at the moment

Afterimage
Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania
Odin Sphere

To be honest I don't know how to describe these games lol. Any other time I'd tell you they 2D side-scrollers, but this day in age where everything has a specific genre I'll just say 2D action (?). Dead Cells and Odin Sphere seems to have combat more to my liking whereas Afterimage has this 1-hit thing going for it. I bailed on Bloodstained because of this. Afterimage has a faster pace and I can get by with the character dashing. The other problem I have with Afterimage, as gorgeous looking as it is, the main character blends in with the background.

I'm not really looking to finish any of these right now. I'm mainly just scraping through the backlog to see what smaller games I have to fill in space until a big hitter I'm looking forward to is released or until I'm ready to move on to the next large game.

I don't usually play these type of games so my tolerance level has been up and down. As I said, I bailed on Bloodstained and Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors. For some reason I recall Ninja Saviors (Ninja Warriors) having combat like a beat em up style; Streets of Rage type. Here, it's weird. Like the characters gotta stand still to attack. I can't micro-step and attack or anything and that just messes me up. That's probably akin to more old school whereas Bloodstained, this 1-hit stuff, I just don't like it. And it's slow. If Castlevania is like this I'm out.

I did get a little too used to modern games where I'm told what my objective is. All these games, the pause menu is so bare and (Afterimage is loaded though) nothing is really explained to you. No objectives, a map that means squat to me.

I don't know what to make of these last few chapters. I know this explanation is supposed to be "shocking" but it's not hitting me. This is probably due to me skipping a lot of flashbacks back then, so a lot of this is either going over my head or just don't come off as detrimental. I suppose the only thing that did get a "reaction" out of me (if you call "heh" a reaction) is this latest chapter. I'm homing in on just the message itself, excluding the chaos going on around it

Spoiler
Holy Hell these old people

I will say damn you, Oda. These double spreads or whatever kills me. Dial it back a bit. You're going too crazy on them lol. I can just barely make out whats going on. Definitely gonna need to see this animated.

Granted, I've been developing the theory that Crunchyroll themselves aren't that difficult to work with, and the real reason Toonami's had trouble getting shows from them is because they've struggled to give an answer to "Why would we let you air our biggest shows like JJK or Frieren run at 1 or 2 AM, at hours when most of the target audience for these shows is asleep? Why aren't you airing these at actual prime time hours?" Because if I were a Crunchyroll exec, I would have those questions.

Toonami scheduling, and CN scheduling in general, looks so below standards from the outside looking in. Why is MAWS, a show for kids that's more lighthearted than STAS that aired on weekday afternoons, premiering on midnights instead of at an earlier time?

From what I understand, what was keeping either version of Sailor Moon from Toonami was an exclusivity contract with Hulu, which appears to have expired.

I think the other reason that they're able to get SM is due to their relationship with Toei, who still believes in broadcast airings. That's why they were able to get One Piece for cheap and will probably get the new DB series, despite FuniRoll being otherwise difficult to work with.

As for Big O, I don't see it being a problem for Toonami to get season 1, especially since Sentai doesn't seem hard for them to work with. I don't know how high of a priority that would be, though, as opposed to what are arguably their three biggest shows ever.

Because last I checked, the Sailor Moon owners were very picky about the handling of their show, hence that dry spell a while ago when the series wasn't legally available in the US.

...and Viz released the series uncut and in full, and that was a decade ago, so it's not a problem anymore.

QuoteBesides, doesn't CN have the rights to Big O thanks to co-producing it?

They have season 2. If they wanted season 1, they'll have to pony up some cash to Sentai.
Except hadn't DeMarco claimed (which I frustratingly can't find since he deleted his Twitter instead of leaving it dormant) that he tried to get Sailor Moon Crystal to no avail, even though Viz had it, meaning there is established difficulty more recent than a decade ago? And why would 200 episodes of a popular show from Viz be cheaper or easier to acquire than 13 episodes of a now mostly niche show from Sentai? Even if it was just the first season of SM, that's still 46. And I think even only a few months in, CN would have enough data to know if Rewind was worth it or not.

So much for Clownfish TV's prediction of CN getting shut down. Zaslav has pounded them, but they'd already be gone if that was going to happen.

That said, I do hope they do the right things with Toonami's lineup. Hopefully, they catch fire if they play their cards right.

Really stupid that this isn't a spin-off of the Ducktales reboot.

My guess is that it's only airing on Fridays as an experiment to see if this is worth replacing or complimenting Checkered Past. The CN shows are free for them to air, but these anime have to add up, and they may not think it's worth the investment if there isn't an audience right at the beginning.
