Title: We Bare Bears
Post by: Daikun on July 24, 2015, 07:01:55 PM
I suppose it's about time we did a thread on this show. CN has been promoting the hell out of this over the past month, and it's finally having a week-long premiere this Monday at 6:30PM.

We Bare Bears is the creation of Daniel Chong, and it's based on his short-lived webcomic (http://thethreebarebears.blogspot.com) from a few years ago. He later decided to adapt it into an animated short, which won an award at an animation festival in Amsterdam. This impressed CN enough to pick it up for a series. The show is about three bears--Grizz, Panda, and Ice--who awkwardly try to adjust to human life in San Francisco.

While looking up more info on this series, I was surprised to find Randy Myers in the credits. Remember him? He worked on past CN hits like PPG and Samurai Jack.

This looks pretty cute, so I'm down to give it a go.

I'll admit that my expectations for this series were actually pretty low.

Thankfully, this show turned out to be better than I'd hoped. We're three episodes in, and I'm already impressed. Check it out if you haven't yet.

I hope it's like Clarence where I start liking it more over time. Only saw one episode but I found it pretty weak.

Saw the first episode earlier today. I really liked it. I wasn't sure what kind of humor it'd have, but it was funny. Particularly the ending to "Our Stuff". I won't even spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, just trust me you won't see it coming.

I'm playing catch-up with this show, and I'm really enjoying it. This reminds me of Regular Show at its most fun and energetic, but the bears have a strong enough chemistry to make it its own.

"Ice Bear settled that out of court."

Wow, that was fast. But the series has already been very fun to watch a few episodes in, so I'm glad. I just hope Cartoon Network can get even more cartoons to vary their schedule.

I watched some of this last week. To me, it was like a random mid-levl 90s Nicktoon - y'all laugh at it a few times then forget about it.

Grizzly is my favorite bear.

If the latest episode is any indication, this is already growing into another really good one. I'm glad to see that we'll be able to watch it transform into a great.

If I wasn't sold on this show before, "Shush Ninjas" definitely clinched it for me.

Started watching some. So far it's alright. Let's see how later episodes hold up.

Getting a TV movie and a baby bears spin-off (https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/herocomplex/la-et-hc-we-bare-bears-movie-spinoff-20190530-story.html).

Not bad, although I honestly haven't caught up with the show in a while. I do wonder if this is the end for the main series however, since it sounds like there hasn't been talk of another season after this current one.

I've fallen behind on the show and need to get caught up, but a spinoff about the Baby Bears sounds great since those tend to be some of their best episodes. Really looking forward to the movie too.

Baby bears episodes became a lot more frequent as the series went on, especially in the past year.
I wonder if this spinoff will be an opportunity to separate the baby and adult bear episodes into their own shows (much like Cow & Chicken and I.M. Weasel), or if they'll just make the baby bears the main content of the series.

Drops digitally June 8 30.

The movie is available now on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B089DNJCFC) and Fandango. (https://www.fandangonow.com/details/movie/we-bare-bears-the-movie-2020/MMV954B30F8DEABDDEBD3C0B2CBCE9E8084D)

The movie was going to be delayed till June 30, but I guess these two services didn't get the memo.
UPDATE: They've taken it down.

EDIT: Going by the wording of this article, (https://kidscreen.com/2020/06/08/daniel-chongs-storyboard-collective) it seems to imply that the show is likely over.

I'm not surprised- I surmised as much when the spin-off was announced. It would be overkill to have the baby bears show and the OG series on at the same time. Maybe if it was a SpongeBob-level megahit, but I've had the impression that it's more marketable than popular.

I stopped watching the show midway through season 2. It's cute, but hardly something I'm attached to. I might catch the movie if it airs on CN or goes to HBO Max, but I have no desire to buy it.

Just watched the movie. It's pretty good, and I can see why CN delayed its release. The plot of the movie hits WAY too close to home in regards to recent events. Pulling it for a few weeks was the right call.

Anyway, Daniel Chong has left Cartoon Network (https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/movies-tv/bay-area-creator-of-we-bare-bears-marks-end-of-series-with-new-movie) and isn't involved with the Baby Bears spinoff.

I guess it's safe to say our time with this show is done.

So as far as the main series is concerned, the Movie is the series finale I take it?

Yeah, it doesn't even look like Chong's baby (pun intended) at this point.

At least its not the "CalArts" style some cartoon nerds on Twitter have been whinging about, assuming that's indeed the style the show will have.

It looks cute!

I don't think I'll regularly see it, as I was never that wild about the main show, but I'm sure it will please younger fans just fine.

Looks very anime-ish, but in a good way like Totally Spies. Not in a bad way like....whatever that Sailor Moon parody mess on SyFy is supposed to be.

Gotta appeal to that Asian market, since IIRC they're the reason why we're getting a Baby Bears spin-off.
