As for me, I suppose it'd probably be The Prince of Egypt, but I honestly haven't seen that one in quite a long time. In terms of movies that are just plain fun without any real depth, I'd have to say that I honestly got a ton of enjoyment out of Kung-Fu Panda.
Before I saw How To Train Your Dragon, I would have said Kung-Fu Panda. It had the warmth and humor of the first two Shreks with none of the stupid pop culture or potty jokes to drag it down.
But yeah, HTTYD was something else. So much heart, and it could still make you laugh at scenes. I already went in great detail here (http://animrevelationreviews.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-to-train-your-dragon-and-make-good.html), so I don't want to repeat myself, but this is just something I can't recommend enough for Dreamworks nay sayers.
Kung Fu Panda totally surprised me when I saw it the first time. I honestly didn't think DW would put out something like that, but I'm glad they did.
Right now, my favorite Dreamworks animated films are Shrek 1, Shrek 2, Shrek 4, Kung-Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon, & Megamind. I know what you guys are thinking, why do I like Shrek 2 and 4? Well, I thought that Shrek 2 was a great sequel in it's own right, it told an interesting story for me to follow, that and Puss in Boots was my favorite character. As for 4, I enjoyed the story in it.
I know I don't like Shark Tales, I need to rewatch Over The Hedge, & Madagascar myself to reevaluate the movies, and I have yet to see Bee Movie and Monsters vs Aliens.
Antz and Prince of Egypt. The first Shrek was good, too. To be honest, that's all I like from them. :(
Might as well go with the Shrek series, since I don't really go out the theatres that often.
Easily it has to be How to Train Your Dragon, because the plot is great and the humor itself doesn't rely on pop-culture references.
Haven't seen any of DW's output this year, including HTTYD, Shrek 4, or Megamind so keep that in mind. My favorites though out of everything else would probably be the first Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda, and Prince of Egypt/Road to El Dorado. I also really like Over The Hedge, although I guess no one agrees with me on that one.
I really like the Prince of Egypt. For the record, I hate Christianity, I think the Bible is a really poorly written fairy tale (was the son of _ was the son of _ was the son of _) and I hate how people allow the dumb book to dominate their lives. But Dreamworks made the characters interesting and likable, even Yahweh. It's not just another "Ramesis bad, Noah good" adaption.
Otherwise I liked Shrek 1 & 2 and enjoyed Antz when I was younger. I haven't really seen much other Dreamworks movies other than Road to El Dorado, which was okay, and Shark Tale, which was shit.
Prince of Egypt was cool, but I'll favor the first Shrek movie. Family likes the Madagascar movies and Kung Fu Panda. I've yet to see Megamind or How To Train Your Dragon. Just as long as they don't throw bombs like Doogal.

Um, the Joseph story's from the Old Testament. :bleh:

I don't want this topic to become about it, but that was extremely uncalled for.
Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with talon. I have absolutely no problem with you or anyone else expressing their opinion, SSJ Jake, and as for this particular opinion of yours I'm personally 100% neutral to it, but that's not the point. I'd rather that we exclude expressing personal feelings about other religions or ethnicity or races or anything of the sort, even though I'm sure there isn't any current member of the site who would directly be offended by your particular opinion in this case. Either way, we aren't really here to talk about religion and stuff like that, so just for future reference, lets all try to keep the talk on these threads focused on the actual topic at hand, and try to avoid comments that could potentially offend someone reading it in any serious way. That's all that I ask.
And no, I'm not even really directing this at SSJ Jake, personally, but rather would appreciate if everybody abides by it as a general rule.
You may all carry on, now.
Fair enough but why are you all bringing it up three days later? You could have very well pointed it out to me like the day I made that post. Can't say I'm sorry for my own opinions but I do apologize if this gets off topic into a debate.
Well, as for me that would be because I didn't bother checking this thread out again until just today.

The same goes for me.
I suppose I need to grind through Shrek Forever After. :burn:
The movies I've been watched and liked it so far are Kung Fu Panda, Shrek 1,2 and 3, Madagascar, Bee Movie and Shark Tale.
Add me to the list of people who were surprised with Kung Fu Panda. Had the same pre-thoughts like Avaitor(references to popular culture), but it turned out really good. That movie, How To Train Your Dragon, and Shreks 1 & 2. I've seen Monsters vs. Aliens, but it didn't live up to what I thought it'd be. Enjoyable movie, nonetheless, replay value is pretty low though.
Haven't seen Megamind yet, the next time I go to Wal-Mart or wherever I'll buy it.
After catching a bit of Shrek on my ship's messdecks(aka cafeteria to you guys) the other day, I decided to sit down and rewatch the movie.
And, I still really like it. It's still funny, I think the animation is really good, and it still looks amazing, being more than ten years old at this point. I don't quite know if I really want to watch any of the sequels(still never saw the fourth one), but the first movie still holds up quite well.
I still like the first two movies as well as Puss n Boots, but have still yet to see 3 or 4.
So as far as I'm concerned, it's a good series. :humhumhum:
I hear that 4 is okay.
I liked 4, not as much as 1 & 2, but liked it more than 3. Puss in Boots is it's own little thing and I loved it all the way.
I had no idea where to post this, but this seems to be being used as a general DreamWorks thread.
What do you guys think of that... racing snail movie coming up?
It's an incredibly stupid movie on the fundamental concept level.
This literally feels like a bad pitch session that only got through because Dreamworks thought they could market the snails like Pixar's Cars franchise. The plot is something kids come up with for grade school writing assignments. The jokes are abysmal sub-00s Nickelodeon and the characters are the same archetypes we've seen in every movie like this. The advertising is obnoxious and totally undeserving for the film which makes it appear better than the lame TV movie it probably is to kids. Worst of all, by this time we know Dreamworks is capable of better and this is a giant tumble backwards for them. Nothing about this looks good.
I'm not one to say something is a totally bad idea out of the gate, but I really do think that in this case. This looks awful and if it's successful then that might be it for any hope Dreamworks had because this as a franchise is a terrible idea.

Well it bombed this weekend, so I guess that answers that.

Awesome news. I'm glad it did as bad as it looked.
Between this and Rise of the Guardians' disappointing box-office results, things don't seem to be doing greatly at Dreamworks right now.
I guess KFP2's surprising disappointment at the box office didn't help either.
I hope HTTYD2 is a good one and that it continues to inspire them to keep going in that direction.
Turbo looks like one of those family animated movies which are designed to primarily appeal to kids 9 and under. It seemed like it would be better suited as a DTV than a theatrical release. My guess is the only reason why Dreamworks even bothered with a theatrical release for Turbo was because it's Summer and they must've thought that parents would take their kids to see this, though it looks like most of them just went to see Despicable Me 2 again.
Thing of it is, you guys don't actually know if its as bad as looks. Especially if you haven't seen it. I for one want to go see it. And can't be as bad you guys are making it put if managed to score 64%. :butbut:
I don't plan on seeing Epic Movie anytime soon either, yet I'm pretty sure that's as awful as Vampires Suck (which I also haven't seen). With certain genres, you just get an inkling.
The Rise of the Guardians was actually pretty alright. Have no idea what this racing snail movie is though.
An inkling that in this case could be wrong. My point is that it seems you guys seem to just assume its without looking into if what others are saying about it. Of course Epic Movie sucked, and the critical and audience reviews reflected that. But they're not reflecting what your believing about Turbo.
My point is that its one thing if previews make a movie seem like its irredeemable, but after it comes out it doesn't hurt to look into if there is or not evidence that is.
I'm not quite sure what would specifically be wrong when I don't like the concept, the humor, the plot, or really anything about it on a general level. I can't think of a single time where I liked a movie despite all that.
The last time would probably be Cars... and I was right about that. First Pixar movie I outright didn't like.
If you don't want to watch that's fair. But its still not terrible like its getting made out.
My pups liked Turbo; of course it's their target demographic. I got out of having to watch that.

I'm with you there.
I think I'm the only person on the planet who hasn't seen Despicable Me.

You're not really missing out on anything, if I can be honest. The only distinctive thing about the film I can remember is the Minions.
But you can't take anything away from Steve Carell. He made Gru into something truly his own.
I liked Despicable Me. It wasn't a favorite or anything, but I enjoyed watching it.
