Random thought, but are there any good plugs that can be used to connect old consoles (NES, SNES, etc.) to an HD TV without stretching and ruining the game's visuals?

I have a question about the Retron 5. Is that thing... legal? I'm just wondering out of curiosity.
Yes, since it's reverse engineering.  If it actually took the components from an actual NES or SNES, that would be illegal.  But they're re-programming it from scratch, hence why certain games have emulation issues.

Responding to this weeks later because lately I've been hearing that the Retron 5 apparently stole its emulator directly from another source. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/09/hyperkins_retron_5_console_allegedly_infringes_on_the_rights_of_multiple_emulator_authors
Yeah, it was a minor controversy when the console was announced, and it did turn some away from purchasing the console.

Do you know anything about these?

Avaitor

This is what I currently have on my Virtual Console collection.

NES-
Zoda's Revenge

Genesis-
Shinobi III: Revenge of the Ninja Master
Gunstar Heroes

Neo Geo-
Samurai Shodown II

SNES-
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Metroid

N64-
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Mario Tennis

I really should get more for it.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

That's a good selection. If you want genre suggestions, you know we're good for it.  ;)

I actually have exactly 500 points left, which I was thinking about using for either a SMS game or one of the first 2 Ninja Gaidens, but I might end up buying more points with my own money the next time I head back.

I'm thinking of picking up DKC 2, since somehow it's harder to find a physical copy of it here than 3. That'll set me back $25, but from what I can, that's not too bad at all for the game.

Oh yeah, the DKC2 cart is worth it. It's one of the game carts I've managed to hold onto (like Yoshi's Island) since I wasn't sure how likely a re-release of the game would be.

Of course now it's on GBA, the VC, and the Wii U VC, but I didn't know that at the time.

Oh, I meant that I can get the cart for DKC 3, not 2. At least not right now, but the guy that I get most of my older games from is pretty good about having stuff come and go regularly.

He also has Mega Man X for the same price. 2 as well, but that's a bit more. Not nearly as much as Earthbound though, which he has for $200.

X2, X3, and Earthbound are very hard to come by. Glad I got my copies of those a long time ago!

DKC3 is probably worth it. I'm not exactly sure how rare that one is though.

I don't think it's super rare, but games made at the end of a Nintendo console's lifecycle are usually not the easiest, or cheapest to show up.

That explains why Banjo-Tooie usually costs more than Kazooie, and why I found the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess for a surprisingly hefty price that day.

Mail came today, and I got a Star Fox cart!

Do you think it plays the same as the Nintendo versions?

Speaking of the HVGN, is Wild Guns worth a VC purchase? It sounds like a fun one.

And how about Axelay?

I was actually just playing Axelay today.

Amazing game. Really creative, really tight, really cool... really hard. It's the best shmup on the SNES VC, though, so if you like the genre you should really like it. It was also Treasure's last game with Konami before they left.

Wild Guns is really fun, too, but it's a Cabal-style shooter which not many people like.

I guess it would depend on which style of shooter you'd prefer to play.

Both sound up my alley!

Just like I aspire to have a great Wii collection, I intend to do the same for the VC. So I'll try to save up for both, among a few others, when I can.
