Instead of sleeping on the Looney Tunes franchise after TLTS wrapped up production, Warner is working on a new series for Bugs Bunny.
According to the Cartoon Network upfront, this will be what to expect
QuoteWabbit - A Looney Tunes Production: The hilarious, heroic and mischievous Bugs Bunny you love is back! From Warner Bros. Animation, Bugs stars in an all-new series consisting of comedic shorts that find the iconic carrot-loving rabbit matching wits against (and getting the best of) classic characters like Yosemite Sam and Wile E. Coyote. Along the way, Bugs will encounter brand-new foes?and he?ll have some help from new friends like Bigfoot and Squeaks the squirrel.
As someone who found the last Looney Tunes show to be enjoyable, but not without its faults, this sounds like more of a return to form for the character, yet the addition of new characters has me skeptical. It's too soon to say much else, though.
I'm surprised at how fast WB decided to make another show around a Looney Tunes character after the Looney Tunes Show ended. I figured that going to the traditional route for this would make people happier than the sitcom style of TLTS.
It seems like a combination of influence from the recent Mickey shorts and the upcoming Tom & Jerry series, which is a logical call.
I have interest instead of indifference.
Nice to see another LT project in the works, and one that'll attempt to bring the characters back to their roots like the new Mickey Mouse shorts (anyone else been watching those? They've been getting better and better, imo). The new characters are curious to me, but hopefully they'll turn out alright. I hope we learn more about it, soon.
I am so digging. I too can't believe they'd green-light a new show so fast for Bugs, but I guess it's fan-service to make up for all the neglect of the classic shorts.....
I like the art on the poster at least.
Unlike that Scooby Doo art, which looks like Cow and Chicken and The Fairly Oddparents had a retarded love baby together.

...Did they give Scoob a lobotomy? :whuh:
The Bugs poster... Not sure what to think yet. The design looks promising, but I'll reserve judgment till we can see the rest of him.
First picture is nice.
That second one is just wrong. It's like pseudo-Butch Hartman fan art.
Ruh-roh! Rooby rust re ronseing.
I've seen someone compare Scoob to the dog from Johnny Test, and I think that's spot-on.

As for this latest Looney Tunes creation, I'm definitely interested in seeing what they come up with. Seems to be a step in the right direction when compared to that Looney Tunes Show sitcom. Just have to hope they don't fart around with the character designs too much. Us old schoolers don't like our childhood toons messed with..
(dear god... Scooby, what did they do to you!!?)
I didn't think there could be worse Scooby designs than Get A Clue!'s...but, wow, they've outdone themselves. Hopefully the show is better than that design suggests.
Comic-Con Magazine (this issue (http://comiccon.thewb.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/WB-TVGM-2014-Cover-D1-Batman-75.jpg) in particular) had an article with details on
Wabbit.Quote-The series is set to debut sometime in 2015.
-A redesigned Squeaks the Squirrel appeared in the issue
-Bugs will be going up against Barbarians, Ninjas, and Terminators
-Taz will be featured, but he will now be known as Theadore Tasmanian. He will work in the accounting department and is repressing his true wild and crazy self
-Wile E. Coyote is going to be an annoying, know-it-all neighbor
-4 shorts per episode
-Erik Kuska will be producing the show (he was an animator on Looney Tunes: Back in Action)
-The show is staying away from cliches (aka no anvils)
I don't like what they're trying with Taz, but Wile E. as an annoying neighbor could work.
I fail to see what is wrong with anvils, though. >:(
Quote-The show is staying away from cliches
Then it would have to be nothing like The Looney Tunes Show, either.
What's wrong with wanting the show to be in the vein of slapstick humor? It's not like we're overloaded with it nowadays.
Some of these ideas sound pretty weird, but they might work. I think?
I don't want to become one of those pessimistic Looney Tunes fans who hates every new attempt at the characters, but I'm not sure if I want to see Bug Bunny tackle ninjas yet.
Ya gotta keep up with the times. Bugs has never fought ninjas, so this will be different. Sucks, though, that we have to wait until 2015.......
No more anvils? 0/10. Will not watch...then again, I was skeptical of The Looney Tunes Show as well, and that show's second season ended up featuring hilarious episodes that gave me the joy that the original shorts gave me. Albeit in their own Seinfeld-esque way.
The whole "no falling anvils" thing got me to thinking: What specific old school Looney Tunes shorts actually had falling anvils anyway? I honestly can't think of very many; I mean, I know they used that kind of gag occasionally, but I don't think it was as common as some like to believe. This seems like the kind of thing that, because A! and TTA were full of them, and those were inspired by classic animation, that people assumed that the classic shorts was big on them too. Am I wrong?
roadrunner.
We have a few voice actors (https://twitter.com/carlosalazraqui/status/555257892215853056) announced: Carlos Alazraqui, Candi Milo, and Cedric Yarbrough.
Not sure what parts they'll be playing, though.

Well.. not all anvils fell. ;D Here's a fun compilation video I found of some classic examples. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwGQqnKO_uA)
I know there's more examples but can't recall them at the moment.
Hmm, there were more than I remember! Still, you notice how in all those clips, anvils don't just randomly drop from the sky by some unknown force? They were always dropped or used by a character.
I think the prevalence of the anvil in TTA and A! was because the shows were held to stricter standards, and they couldn't use the multitude of other slapstick objects that the original shorts did, like dynamite and gunfire and such. Yes, there is instances of explosives used in both TTA and A!(Montana Max substitutes microphones for sticks of dynamite in the Christmas Special, Slappy rigs a xylophone with explosives, etc.), but given the PC nature of the time they had to cut back on them, whereas I don't think there was any gunfire in either show(if there was it was very minimal). Sure, anvils are dangerous, but what kid has access to one, let alone would be able to pick one up and wallop their siblings/peers with it?
Remember too that as early as the mid to late 70s airings of the original shorts, particularly Roadrunner cartoons and the Hunting shorts, were being censored and cut up to remove or lessen moments of gunfire and explosives.
Also it's notable that out of the 1000+ shorts in the original Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies library, only 26 shorts are represented in that video. The description does say "near-complete", so it's likely there's a few instances missing, but in the grand scheme of things that's not very many examples.
Turner released CN's 2015 upfront. (https://pressroom.turner.com/us/cartoon-network/cartoon-network-approaches-upfront-unmatched-growth-across-all-screens) This show--along with Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! and the new Inspector Gadget--aren't mentioned.
Boomerang, here we come!
I can see airing Wabbit and Inspecter Gadget on Boomerang, but it seems really strange that they aren't giving the Scooby show to the basic cable network, considering how much CN has relied on the property in the past. I figured it would've been a lucrative show for CN, in a time where there are still many people that don't get Boomerang(it still seems like a novelty honestly).
Yeah, the fact that Turner's putting Be Cool, Scooby-Doo on Boomerang instead of Cartoon Network either says that they're really trying to attract more viewers to Boomerang, or that they really don't have a lot of faith in Be Cool. Wabbit makes sense since its' a Looney Tunes property and Boomerang's been running The Looney Tunes Show there for a while now.
Also, I read from one comment on the CN Upfront page that Inspector Gadget will be airing everywhere except the US. Hope that's not true.
Silverstar! :joy: Welcome back!

Silverstar! :joy: Welcome back!
Thanks! :D
I know I've been gone a looooooooooooooong time and I've got a ton of catching up to do, but now that I've got some extra time on my hands, I'll be sticking around for a bit.
Back to
Wabbit: I'm trying to give WB the benefit of the doubt with this show since it sounds like they're trying to make up for TLTS by making this series closer to the shorts in look and feel. I'm not sure about the Taz thing, though; it sounds weird and limiting, but I'll hold off on judgment until I see it in action.
I wondered where you went! Welcome back. :)
I don't know if Daffy will be in this new series, but if he is, I hope that he's portrayed as more of a lunatic with an out-of-control ego than just jealous of Bugs. Ideally, I'd like something along the lines of the Space Jam version of the Duck.
I wonder if Warner is deciding to give Daffy a bit of a break after his time as a co-lead on The Looney Tunes Show, and only make him an occasional appearance to not take away Bugs' thunder. As much as I love Daffy, it makes sense, as this is meant to be Bugs' show.
According to an update (http://www.electrictiki.com/whats-up.html) by Tracy M. Lee on his website (http://www.electrictiki.com/homepage/tikihome.html) (the latest update was yesterday), Wabbit premieres on Boomerang in October.

It's looking pretty fun. I hope that it doesn't disappoint.
Those character designs are going to be difficult to get used to. Not crazy about them. But I'm hoping the writing and directing can make this shine..
b-but.. Was that really Yosemite Sam?? :zonk: He's getting out of shape since they took his revolvers away in recent years.
I was thinking, "Hey! Bugs' Wabbit design looks much much better here!"...and then they showed Yosemite's pot belly ass...Did they really take away his revolvers? Ugh, I was worried when he started doing all of that pointing.
Anyway, all in all it seems like it'll be pretty good slapstick.
Even though it's meant to premiere on Boomerang, CN will be airing a special preview all next week (EDIT: and the week after) at 5PM!
They're going to air the same episode each day for two weeks? Or are they airing different episodes on each of those days? Either way, at least CN is promoting it, even if they aren't going to regularly air it themselves.

I forgot to mention this, but I watched the first two episodes a few days ago. The site I was watching it on had another link for the second ep in place of the third, so I stopped there, and haven't been back since.
But I like it so far. I do wish that Sam and Coyote had better designs, and I can take or leave the sasquatch, but this feels like a modern return to Bugs Bunny's roots in a clever and tasteful manner, which is what I was hoping for. I'm excited to see more of it soon!
So, I guess Boomerang recently caught up with CN's premieres and has been airing new episodes. Oops.
Recently watched the first few episodes and have to admit that Wabbit made me do a 180 in a positive way. But..!

My thoughts exactly. It's pretty damn perplexing as to why they felt the need to mess with the character designs as they have. Makes me REALLY wonder what Friz Freleng and Chuck Jones would've thought about this. Strangely enough, however, the design for Bugs doesn't bother me nearly as much.
Season 1, volume 1 release is coming soon. (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Wabbit-Season-1-Pt-1/21993)
Cool. I still haven't watched past the first couple of episodes, but I enjoyed what I've seen enough to consider getting it for like $10. As long as it stays fresh, at least.
Boomerang UK has revealed Porky Pig.

That picture's upside-down.
I'm sure some people are unhappy, but I like it! He looks kinda old-school here.
I finally saw some of it.
I dunno, maybe I'm being generous because I really didn't like TLTS, but I really enjoyed what I saw. It actually felt like watching Looney Tunes only with its own distinct flavor.
I've actually warmed up to TLTS a little, but I do think that I've enjoyed what I've seen of this more. It's closer to the originals, but there's still enough of a modern flare to it to make the show feel fresh and worthy to stand on its own.
I should really consider that set when it hits, if it hasn't already.
Daffy and Foghorn's character designs have been revealed.
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/A17eFHqtWPL.jpg
Daffy's not bad. He looks very fluid, which is best for him.
Foghorn, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about. I don't think the Dreamworks smirk is a good look for the characters.
Foghorn's off, Daffy is....passable and that's a link.
Daffy looks daffy. As in, crazy.
I hope that's what he's played as for once.
I do like crazy Daffy. We've had plenty of jealous Daffy. Not that I'd complain since that's my favorite :D
Really liking that look for Daffy. Hoping they'll bring him back to his roots, since it'd be interesting for Bugs to deal with a Daffy that's as crazy as he is witty instead of the irascible jerk he's become in recent years. Foghorn does look off, though. For some reason his face reminds me of the Coco Puffs bird.
One thing I like about this series is how much less of a Gary Stu Bugs is. He one-ups the bad guys, but he works for it and you want him to succeed. There are also ones where he's the one at fault and pays the price for it. Honestly, this show probably has the best Bugs I've seen in a while.
Seeing a cartoon where loopy Daffy one-ups annoyed Bugs would be perfect for this show. Particularly because it has never happened before.
Hmm..I THINK I remember Daffy beating Bugs before but maybe that memory is just Daffy bugging the crap out of him. lol
CN Africa released a clip of the new Wabbit season, featuring Daffy (who'll be voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) and Porky.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLkdzBvMcE4
Daffy is...daffy! Wow! Its so, so refreshing to see this side of Daffy again instead of the irritable, self-centered egomaniac he's been characterized as in most interpretations in recent memory. Really looking forward to seeing how this version of Daffy interacts with Bugs in the show in particular.
I've been wanting to see this Daffy again for ages. So glad he's back. Here's hoping we can see him rub up against Bugs.

Oh man, I am happy to see this Daffy again too, even if his later version is my favorite.
The first season was just added to Netflix here. I'm going to try to get a friend to watch some of this.
I really quite like it.
The show is undergoing a name change. Both Amazon and Pogo TV are now calling it "New Looney Tunes."
The intro has been completely redone to include all the Looney Tunes characters. (Makes sense since it's not strictly Bugs' show anymore.)

I like it! I ought to catch back up on this show. I really liked the first season so I'm sure I'll love the current stuff now that they've added in more of the Looney Tunes characters.
As long as they keep up the quality writing and direction then they can do whatever they want.
New Looney Tunes is finally airing new episodes on the Boomerang app.

Not only was that a fitting update to the original, it also had the right ending.
This series may be cancelled, but WB isn't giving up.
They're giving Looney Tunes shorts another shot, (https://deadline.com/2018/06/looney-tunes-short-form-revival-warner-bros-animation-1202407762) this time with a completely different crew and a new format.
I'm interested so far.
Based on further developments, we might need to make a new thread for these.
