Title: Rocket Power
Post by: Eddy on July 03, 2011, 01:28:18 AM
To be honest, I hated this show. Despised it, even. But for some reason I watched it anyway. I guess nothing was on.

WOOGITY WOOGITY WOOGITY
SHOOBIES
THE SQUID BEEFED IT
etc.

God, what a bad show. (No offense to anyone here who happened to like it)

Yeah, I never liked it, either. One of the few cartoons I would actively avoid when I was younger, and I would watch pretty much anything animated regardless of quality back then.

Sorry to anyone who liked it, but I still think this is the single worst Nicktoon and show to ever air on Nick.

Bottom 5, sure. But is it really worse than Mr. Meaty? That shit makes me retch.

Oh, god, I forgot about Mr. Meaty. Why did you remind me?  :gonk:

But was there anyone who actually liked Rocket Power? This and Catdog were the two Nicktoons I remember flat out hating.

I completely forgot about Mr. Meaty... Thank you for bringing that back.

But yeah, there are a few fans of this show out there. I'm not sure why though, I find this to be focus tested safe drivel.

Liked it when I was a kid. As a young adult, the show falls squarely in the "So Bad It's Good" territory.

I find it odd how Klasky-Csupo are making minor comebacks through memes lately. Stu and his pudding, Tito and the Ancient Hawaiian mantras, and Nigel Thornberry. How will As Told By Ginger be brought back through the unwashed hands of the internet? Hoodsey macros?

Those memes are really weird to me but then most memes are.

The Stu making pudding is a legitimately funny moment from the episode, though. The other stuff is just odd.

I've seen a few Ginger gifs and macros on tumblr, but I can't think of anything from the show that would stick like Nigel Thornberry.

Also, I still say that this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoJhNWJGsS8&feature=related) is Rocket Power's only redeeming quality. And he only appeared in one episode.

Rocket Power was garbage, for the most part. Even as a kid I thought it sucked.

I never hated CatDog, but I never really cared that much for it either. I always was and still am fairly indifferent to it.

If you want to go into another series I downright hated (which oddly enough I think a lot of other people seem to have "fond" memories of), I LOATHE The Wild Thornberrys. Such annoying characters, such boring plots, and such god-awful writing. I never saw how anyone could tolerate to watch that show, though I apologize to anyone here who really did like it.

I liked it back in the day too, but I was also into skateboarding around the time the show was on.  I never saw it as a great show, but I did watch it.

And I agree with EK in that The Wild Thornberries was my least favorite Nicktoon.  In retrospect though, Rocket Power, As Told by Ginger, and Catdog really aren't too far from my least favorite as well.  Oh yeah, and that certain show with the fairies where just about every character was annoying beyond belief.

Ugh, I can't believe I used to enjoy that shit.

I actually kind of liked The Wild Thornberries and CatDog (not a lot, mind you), but I always hated As Told By Ginger. Rocket Power and Mr. Meaty are far and away the worst of the bunch, though.

I have a bit of a soft spot for Ginger, and I give it credit for being the closest thing to an animated drama series we've had. Some of the melodrama could be quite effective, too, at least when they focused on the family issues of the characters instead of typical middle school bs that plagued the series.

It's far from perfect, but I'd buy it if Shout put it out on DVD.

As for Mr. Meaty, ugh. I saw some of that a friend's house before, and I want it back out of my head. NOW.

I also hated The Wild Thornberrys. I think what annoyed me about the show most of all was how the predator was treated as the big, evil villain when all it was doing was trying to survive. And then along comes Eliza and stops the animal from getting its meal. Nice going, Eliza, now that python is going to starve.

Thank god I'm not the only one who hated Fairly Odd Parents. I kind of can't stand Butch Hartman's stuff in general, to be honest.

Back on the old board, we had a pretty good thread trashing Hartman's work. It started with me talking about one of the most offensive Danny Phantom episodes, and snowballed into us talking about the problems of that show, why FOP doesn't appeal to most of us, and into why we weren't looking forward to TUFF Puppy and the live-action movie.

There's some glorious stuff from there, but it's all gone.

Yeah, I remember that one episode where Eliza was trying to make a Komodo Dragon eat vegetables and the Komodo Dragon was like "LOL NO! I'M GOING TO EAT YOU!" I don't remember the rest of that episode, cause like someone else said at another board I go to Wild Thornberries was like that show you would watch when nothing else was on and you would only remember it if someone brought it up.

So I've just come to terms with a fact that I always denied. Rocket Power was my guilty pleasure when I was a child. :P

I knew that it sucked, but I watched it. The funny thing is that I claimed to hate it back then. I would watch episodes of it, and make fun of them from start to finish. But dammit, I did watch them. I knew the lyrics to the opening, I had seen and pretty much remembered more episodes and quotes than I should've, but I sure did bash it and bash it without end. :P

I don't care what anyone says, Rocket Power is a good show.

I like some of the jokes on Rocket Power, namely Tito's Ancient Hawaiian running gag, "sand in the potato salad" and as Avaitor brought up earlier "that's the spirit!" Otherwise yeah, the show sucked. Obnoxious kids doing EXTREEEEEME sports =/= fun.

Rocket Power is, IMHO, the worst Nicktoon of all time, with CatDog coming in at a close second. The only reason why I don't include Mr. Meaty is because, a) I never saw an entire episode of Mr. Meaty, and b) Mr. Meaty is technically a puppet show, not a cartoon.

Soulless by product of committee to cash in on a flashy trend (in this case, extreme sports). No characters to care about, only generic archetypes. Annoying buzzwords inserted randomly between scenes. There was something here for everyone to hate.

No offense meant to anyone who enjoyed the show, though.  :humhumhum:

The only character who I can really remember with anything but relentless scorn is Tito.

I really hated the spray-tan look they used. Reggie looked downright hideous with it.

I remember the first time I'd seen an episode of Rocket Power. My younger cousin (who was visiting at the time) turned the TV on to this crap. That theme song... My precious ears... :shit:

Also, the nonstop pandering to the "Xtreme Sports" demographic just seemed way too out of date by the time that show premiered. Wasn't skateboarding a popular trend in the EARLY 90s and not close to Y2K?

Oh no, extreme sports were totally a big thing in the late 90's-early aughts. Remember Tony Hawk?

Last night, from about 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM, I watched reruns of this show and CatDog. That must be the most depressing way to spend a night. All I needed was alcohol to drown out my sorrows. :P

Yeah, the hour-long episode with the Infinity Gauntlet rip-off. I don't feel like looking up the name, but IIRC, it was the season 2 finale.

Oh yeah, the one that ended with everyone's memory erased and most of audience's interest as a result.
