Title: Greatest Animated Movie Ever (Nominations)
Post by: Dr. Ensatsu-ken on November 02, 2013, 05:58:08 PM
Just because I can't get enough of these threads.

At any rate, I was going to do the greatest video game music ever, but I felt more compelled to do this thread since we just did a video game thread. If someone else wants to do a thread of that nature, though, then be my guest.

At any rate, this is self-explanatory as usual. Any feature-length animated films count. I'll let you guys define what counts as feature length, but for me it has to be at least an hour long so as not to count as a short film. With that said, I'm not putting any restriction on the amount of films you can nominate. Everyone just nominate whatever movies you want and we'll move forward from there.

Here are my nominations:

Summer Wars
The Lion King
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Wolf Children: Ame & Yumi
Redline
Toy Story 3
The Aventures of Tintin
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal
Felidae
Up
Monsters Inc.
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro
Ninja Scroll
South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut
Futurama: Bender's Big Score

Shouldn't we retire MOTP since it won the last thread, though?

I was wondering when this one would show up.

Yellow Submarine
Pinocchio
Treasure Planet
American Pop
Coraline
Paranorman

If I may make a suggestion, E-K, maybe we can have each match last a week, a la the Greatest Manga Competition, because that should give enough time for people to check out the movies they haven't seen. I think that would work really well for this competition, because movies, unlike tv shows or comics, take a relatively short amount of time to finish, and most of the movies that will be nominated should be able to be found online or at a local library.

Sure, I'm busy on weekdays, anyway, so that works better for me.

That said I have to assume that each person has watched a fair amount of these movies in the first place to show interest in participating, and one match a week is a bit too slow-paced for me, so I may just end up posting two matches at a time, in that case, just like how I did in the first round for the Greatest Video Game Ever thread. That seems pretty reasonable, to me.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), as Avaitor pointed out, since MotP won the last animated film tournament we had a few years ago, I have decided to exclude it from this competition, just like how Ninja Gaiden Black was excluded from the greatest video game thread and how Yu Yu Hakusho was excluded from the greatest anime thread.

I feel that it keeps the competition more interesting, that way. ;)

Oh great GSF, you went and made it an uneven number again (and 200 was such a good one!)

Fine, let's add Dragonball: The Path to Power to even it out.

Alright. The nomination thread is officially locked. I'll start the poling either late tonight or tomorrow.

Also, I'm not counting the last 4 entries. Sorry, but 200 is more than enough. and we have plenty of DCAU and DBZ representatives as it is. I had said in advance that the poling would close on Friday, anyways, so it's fair game.

Wait, never mind. It turns out that Cartoon X actually can't count for shit. We only had 195 entries. Counting the last 4, that makes 199. So, I'll just nominate one more movie and we'll be on our way, and just for the sake of filler, I'll nominate Digimon Adventure: Our War Game! (even if it isn't feature-length).
