Well, we're between Halloween and Christmas, so it's like a nice time to have a little meeting between the two.

Possibly for the same reason that Much Music used to air Ren and Stimpy back in the day.

MTV used to run Ren and Stimpy.  And Spongebob.  And Rocko, I believe.

MTV 2 also showed Zim for a little itty bitty while.

Well at least it's pretty much a musical, bet it plays more music on MTV during that movie than an entire day of its regular programs..

I just thought it was weird for MTV of all channels to air the film.

Also, I saw an ad claiming FX is airing the cable premier of Rango on Sunday.  Strange, you'd think Nickelodeon would premier it, since it's a Nickelodeon produced movie.
