Okay, I have an actual serious legit question:

Why do so many assholes online accuse bronies of being racists and misogynists? I hate bronies, but I just don't understand that line of criticism at all.

Commode

I must not hang around the right places*, because I never hear that about bronies.  All I ever hear is how weird, sad, and/or creepy they are.

*I don't hang out on Reddit or 4chan on principle alone.
It doesn't matter what you say, soon you'll be dead anyway.

Avaitor

The racism thing is new to me, but I've seen the brony following be called misogynistic by nature since it's about "reclaiming a girl's property to appeal to white men" or some shit. You'll see a dozen variants of that if you go on tumblr.

And do you notice how it's always WHITE men, too?
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Because people want to make their own reason for hating some group of people a moral cause. By calling people they don't like racists, it makes their hatred of them look more acceptable.

King Hippo

Yeah, that's most likely it.

In case you guys don't know, I'm asking this because Zac Bertschy went on a tangent recently in which he called bronies racist creeps and declared that they all secretly hold such views because the normal ones refuse to condemn their own hobby in order to denounce every single creep.

Rynnec

To add to what Marquis said, they always conveniently spotlight the worst of the lot, and act like all bronies are like that. Usually ignoring all the fan music, non-sexualized fanart, and non-creepy fanart/tumblr pages they have. In other words, focusing on the negatives without acknowledging any of the positives, as usual of the internet.

Daxdiv

Yeah, I still don't get why they focus mostly on the negative stuff, like the fedora wearing bunch of Bronies. I blame tumblah for this. It's like focusing on the so called "anti-social aspects" of gaming despite it being pretty mainstream.

But the racism thing stills strikes me as.... what are you on and where can I get it? Of course, I do kind of stand by everyone at least has their moments of racism in them.

Nel_Annette

Heh. Kind of reminds me of an argument I got into yesterday, with someone denouncing Twitch and Let's Play and saying it shouldn't even exist. Everything has it's place. Even if he doesn't like it.

White Guilt at it's finest. But that's either here nor there.

...as far as the brony stuff goes, eh. This argument is as old as dirt and will probably rage forward until the show dies. Or never, because the internet is terrible. Either way though, every fanbase has it's crazies, you're not going to avoid that no matter how hard you try. I don't like the show myself anymore (too many things about it just get on my nerves, when they say stuff like "everypony" and whatever it just doesn't work for me), but if you like it, hey man, that's great. No reason to cluster every casual/level-headed fan in with the crazies who'd like to fuck a horse.

One thing though; what even qualifies as a brony at this point? Are they casual fans (that happen to male, WHITE or otherwise) who just watch the show for what it is? Or are they only the creeps? I feel like the definition of this term has become awfully skewed over the years.

There's your answer lol.

As one of the dudes who used to pretty much persecute MLP fans at every chance, the worst I ever said about them was that they were socially retarded. I have no idea where the racism comes from. I guess because the majority of pictures and videos floating around are of white people?

Dr. Insomniac

Which is weird, because I've met black bronies at university a few times.

King Hippo

I've only watched a few episodes, but MLP seems like Foster's. It has that same distinctive kind of humor and atmosphere.

While I have no doubt that there are racist and misogynist bronies (as you'll find people like that everywhere, sadly), there's absolutely no way you can label the whole group like that. For the most part, the creepy bronies just draw or write porn of themselves fucking horses.

That's a good comparison, and probably explains why I don't like it at all.
