I love the Metal Gear Rising soundtrack. I kind of wish more hack n' slash games could go all out like that and have music that's just plain fun. Rules of Nature is one of my favorite boss themes ever.

So, am I alone on this opinion?

You are most certainly not. MGR's soundtrack is arguably one of the most popular videogame soundtracks on the net. Hell, Rules of Nature itself has gone pretty memetic.

Personally, it's one of my favorite OST's in recent memory.

Speaking of Metal Gear music in general, I do think it's a real shame that we will no longer hear the main theme in any future games. I can't blame them, though. It does sound like the main theme was very much based off of that Russian classical piece.

But still, an orchestrated updated is just what that song needed to be perfect.

Let me set the stage. The game is Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl. Though a remake of the first game in the series, this particular section is only in the new story mode. In one of the final areas of the game, a doomsday machine is ready to go off, and you have fifty "turns" to get across the dungeon map to the control panel. Every move over one space of the map counts as a turn. Every round in a random battle counts as a turn. So you can choose which way you go around the map, looking for the fastest route. And then you reach the control panel, and the computer's A.I. (who was an ally for most of the game) uploads itself into a machine as a final defense against you. The boss battle starts, and so does this track, as you realize "Oh crap, this is a major boss battle, and the timer is still counting down." How you did getting there determines how many moves you get to kill the machine, and it's intense. Loved this section. The track fits the situation perfectly.

Oh, and for good measure, here's the best battle theme in the series, courtesy of Etrian Odyssey IV.

Looks like I might go ahead and host the video game contest myself. There's too many gems I need to post. this one has my heart right now.  :worship:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axibQV5YsOk

If only he could have found a way to get the DKC3 track in there as well.

I put on some Tomb Raider Legend music to help me nap (first time I've ever used music to help me go to sleep) and these two stood out to me.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4MFKjHUCL8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4040GGtFnYs

Why is the music in Yoshi's New Island so terrible? Didn't Nintendo learn their lesson after the abominable music in Yoshi's Island DS?

This is a series with music like this. You'd think they could try a little harder.

As far as I can tell, Yoshi's New Island has one track just played in slightly different ways. And some awful, awful kazoo music.

Damn Spark, you weren't kidding; the music in Tropical Freeze is amazing! I actually did enjoy Returns' OST, but this is on an entirely different level. It's some of David Wise's best work, and some of the best music I've ever heard in a video game. Busted Bayou is now my jam.

Yes! It is an incredible soundtrack. How David Wise has not been hired to make more game soundtracks is a mystery to me.

I'm gonna hold final judgement until I actually PLAY the game, but..........damn. That is such a downer. It's starting to look more and more like the original Yoshi's Island was a flash in the pan; we're, what, 3-4 sequels in and they haven't even come close to replicating it.

Is Yarn Yoshi still in the cards at least?
