Title: Twitter Bad
Post by: Dr. Insomniac on October 15, 2024, 05:46:29 PM
So it appears I got suspended from Twitter. I have no idea how. I know I retweeted something that shit on Elon, but as far as I can see, the original guy who posted that didn't get suspended.

Wow, what the hell.

This site really has gone to shit.

What sucks is I was googling the issue and found out tons of other people get suspended for no fucking reason, or for some stupid miscommunication. Someone got permanently suspended because they said "beat them to the punch" once, and I guess Twitter's algorithm can't detect idioms. Another got banned for changing their avatar, and I guess Twitter assumed it was identity theft. I don't know how that site's still functioning when people can get banned for that. MySpace collapsed for significantly less than this.

Anyway, I've been trying to appeal and calling up ways to get it undone. What sucks is that from what I've read, appeals are highly erratic. Some people manage to get unsuspended just by submitting a few. Others end up submitting hundreds over a period of months before they even get a human Twitter mod to help them out. What also doesn't help is Twitter still hasn't emailed me the actual reason for why I'm banned, so I'm just left to guess when making appeals.

The even stranger part is I've heard people get an email that says
"Hello,
Your account was suspended due to multiple or repeat violations of the X Rules: https://x.com/rules.
This account will not be restored.
This case will now be closed, and replies will not be monitored.
Thanks,"
Only to have their account be restored the following day without an explanation. Which on the bright side means that any email saying I can't do anything is probably bullshit, but on the other hand, means nobody has a fucking clue what's going on with Twitter's moderation.

I wish I can shrug it off and say it's no big deal if I'm permanently suspended or not, but there were quite a few people on Twitter I was following who I can't find anywhere else. So here's hoping.

Elon flushed Twitter down the toilet once he took over.
Let's see what he's doing with the company now...

Also, the new privacy policy will use your posts to train AI. (https://techcrunch.com/2024/10/17/elon-musks-x-is-changing-its-privacy-policy-to-allow-third-parties-to-train-ai-on-your-posts)

I'm waiting to see him get slapped by Google/Apple App stores for screwing around with the whole concept of blocking people. I've seen enough people raise some valid concerns over how dumb the new block system is (IE, getting rid of stalkers, getting rid of underage users if you dabble in 18+ content, etc).

Also saw a lot of artists annoyed that the AI that scrapes everyone's tweets for data is gonna be mandatory soon instead of optional. Hoping a few of the high-profile ones sue for copyright infringement.

Funniest part is despite everything, I still haven't bit the bullet and gotten a Bluesky account. I might eventually if the appeals don't work, but I don't know. It kinda feels like how even when Windows has been shitting the bed lately, I'm too lazy to get on board with Linux.

Bluesky is where the terminally online losers dwell, the ones who thought that tumblr was too cringe but are just as willing to cancel someone for thinking it's okay to put ketchup on your eggs.

As awful as Twitter has become, it's somehow less insufferable than over there.

It still feels like a race for which site can be worse and filled with judgmental schizos who forgot how to behave like a normal person a long time ago. Like before I got banned, I saw replies on someone's tweet going "You better think twice before you mock someone for liking lolis." And I know it's just drawings, but it's still weird to see anyone be smug and high-and-mighty about it without a sense of shame. You don't see those scat or diaper roleplay enthusiasts act sanctimonious about their fetish.

But Bluesky's also the place where that mentally unstable "If you write fanfic, you're supporting genocide!" asshole voluntarily went to, the one everyone praises for her "Everyone is Beautiful, but No One is Horny" article but is violently insane about every other take, so it's hard to really see that as the better place. Maybe it'll be the more stable place when Elon's degenerative brain rots even more, and I know a lot of this is rationalizing my own laziness, but it's still annoying regardless.

I guess the problem is that social media at large is filled with crazy, rude people who openly shit where they eat. The kind who shit on McDonalds workers as a whole but then don't have a real job themselves, but all online and in droves. And I know many of us are guilty of it, I am too, but it's still weird to see online instead of anything resembling basic humility.

Yeesh. Glad I quit Twitter and gave up on Bluesky as a replacement after a week. Social media drama is so exhausting...

It sure is. I don't know how anyone with a tinge of sanity can keep up with some of the drama on Twitter. You can do something as innocuous as post a clip of an anime, and you'll end up starting a culture war with thousands upon thousands of quote-tweets, so I can't figure out why anyone can look at that and think the average Twitter user is mentally stable.

A recent point of discourse came from a weirdo Australian who thinks that people who like BoJack Horseman and other "adult cartoons" are probably pedos.

At least no one took her side, but this is what you're missing!

Reminds me of that one communist waitress on the website who always starts fights over the most stupid shit, like calling Europeans subhumans for not tipping enough, or smugly boasting about all the cocaine she consumes. And somehow, she gets tons of people agreeing with her.

Or when I saw someone subtweet a guy's top 10 TV shows list, and insinuate they were fascist because 6/10ths of them were kid shows. And like the above, they also got people agreeing instead of anyone calling them an idiot. That site just normalizes the worst mix of freak behavior and unearned pretentiousness, and while I'm still pissed about getting banned, I'm also a little relieved since I don't have to see all that stupidity tweeted or retweeted on my timeline where I'm thinking "Why are you mad at this shit? Go outside, read a book, anything, instead of this aggro fuckery you're doing".

I guess with the recent news, Twitter's gonna become a whole lot worse in terms of unfunny memes and assholes who think they're funnier than they actually are. The kind of guys where you're thinking "None of your shitposts or stupid retweets are ever funny. It's all just stupid edgelord shit a 16-year-old would say even though you're over twice that age. I mostly just mute them because I know you're just gonna have a tantrum if I tell you to lay off. You used to be cool to hang out with, and that's why I still follow you. But these days, even hearing you talk is a fucking chore."

How many years has Elon run that stupid "Let that sink in" joke into the ground? Just a whole website of wannabe comedians who have the comedic timing of a corpse.

No one's really cracking jokes. The userbase is mostly miserable, while the right keeps going increasingly mask off.

Yeah, somebody's been showing me tweets, giving me context, and shit looks bleak.

In hindsight, surprised it took Twitter 15 years. MySpace didn't last that long. Even before Elon, I just remember the site becoming a little shitty and thinking "Why are people I'm following retweeting all these obnoxious assholes?"

Twitter is "barely breaking even" (https://bsky.app/profile/culturecrave.co/post/3lgjhxnf6p224) and banks are trying to sell off their billions in debt. (https://bsky.app/profile/culturecrave.co/post/3lgjhzupsnc2m)

Boo hoo, Mr. Musk.

LMAO. It's Tumblr all over again!

It's even gonna be harder for Twitter to gain traction now that a bunch of subreddits are also banning links and even sometimes images to Twitter on Reddit.

That's his fault for shoving Grok everywhere. Someone showed me what the website looks like now, and it's just nonstop AI ads that you can't avoid. And he has to know that shit isn't free, right? AI stuff doesn't come out of nowhere, money is inevitably being burned here.

He's too stupid to realize/care.

Is he still trying to buy Hasbro because he thinks DnD is too "woke"?

No, but he apparently has full access to Treasury confidential information now. (https://bsky.app/profile/wyden.senate.gov/post/3lh5ejpwncc23) Bad news for anyone or their families who rely on social security.
