Title: Pixar, DWA, ILM involved in wage-fixing cartel
Post by: Nameless on July 08, 2014, 07:19:59 PM
Not happy about this. (http://pando.com/2014/07/07/revealed-court-docs-show-role-of-pixar-and-dreamworks-animation-in-silicon-valley-wage-fixing-cartel/)

I still hang around Cartoon Brew, I admit, and their doom-and-gloom about the animation industry is definitely more justified in light of this. The picture for the US animation industry seems to be getting bleaker...

Ed Catmull is a central figure. (http://www.cartoonbrew.com/business/pixars-ed-catmull-emerges-as-central-figure-in-the-wage-fixing-scandal-101362.html)

He tried to get Sony involved in the cartel. Thankfully, they were smart enough to turn him down.

Someone in the comments said that Sony ended up caving and joining. If that's true, then that's awful.

Fortunately, the upstart Paramount Animation doesn't seem to be involved, but I've heard precious little about them.

I'm kind of worried that this is going to end badly for the animation talent. Like, if they win, this will be their cue to send everything offshore.
