Viz has a behind the scenes video of the new anime. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-10-02/viz-streams-subtitled-behind-the-scenes-video-for-one-punch-man-anime/.93690) Also, recent news suggest this anime will be one cour, 12 episodes long (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2015-10-02/attack-on-titan-junior-high-one-punch-man-listed-with-12-episodes-by-spanish-streamer/.93655). But I would say future seasons are a lock at this point.
So discuss the anime adaption of One Punch Man produced by Madhouse here.
Yeah, 12 eps is what I expected since the series is very art and action heavy. Unless Mahouse wants to start adapting OPM from the original web-comic chapters (which there are a lot more of), we'll probably need to wait a while for a second season. In any case, this season will most likely adapt the Sea King and Boros fights, so I'm really excited. ;D
Here's the OP. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leun4aesMb8&feature=youtu.be)
Color me impressed. Episode 1 live up to expectations. It feels like it was always meant to be animated.
The first episode was everything I'd hoped for! Absolutely excellent animation and action sequences that, while maybe don't "pop" as well as they do in the manga, are still a sight to behold. And it was great the way they tied together all of the early episodic chapters together into a coherent narrative using Saitama's existential ennui as a thematic thread. The OP kicks ass too. Easily the best premiere of the season. I doubt anything else will even come close. I hope they can keep this level of quality consistent throughout the whole show! ;D
This is the type of show that gave Madhouse its name. So far the really appear to be taking advantage of the material.
But that fight scene near the end of the episode might be one of the best animated action sequences ever. Easily in TV animation.
Yeah, the first episode was absolutely amazing. Madhouse delivered all that I could have hoped for in an OPM adaption. I'm looking forward to Genos' introduction in the next episode. ;D
This week's episode was a little disappointing, in that they didn't replicate this scene from the manga (http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/14/142926/3826346-speed+gif.gif), but otherwise it was another great one. So far it's been just about everything I've hoped for from an OPM adaption, and now that we're a third of the way in, I'm confident it'll keep it up for the rest of it's run.
I thought you'd be in here talking about that scene.
I'll be watching this on Hulu. I just found out it was on there two days ago.
I actually just watched the second episode, and I'm really enjoying this so far!
Glad to see you guys enjoying it! :)
It's been announced that both the Sea King and Lord Boros have been cast, (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-11-13/one-punch-man-anime-cast-adds-rikiya-koyama-toshiyuki-morikawa/.95363) which confirms that the anime will be adapting both the Sea Monster AND the Alien Conquerors arc. And I'm incredibly happy and excited about that, especially since it means one of all-time my favorite fights in manga will soon be animated! ;D :shakeshakeshake:
:shakeshakeshake:
It's going to be awesome seeing Saitama vs. Boros animated. ;D
6 OVAs are being produced. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2015-11-15/one-punch-man-anime-dvd-bds-to-include-6-ovas/.95403)
More OP anime content is a very good thing. Hopefully Viz releases these alongside the tv anime when it comes time to do their blu-ray/dvd releases.
I started the show today and now I'm caught up. Whoa, I didn't expect it to be this comedic. I have a good number of loud laughs. I actually expected it to take itself kind of seriously. I assumed Genos was going to start out as a villain or rival or something. It must be thanks to the scans I saw...and his eyes. I love how he's basically an ultra serious 70s anime character. I didn't expect Saitama to be super durable (or even super strong). I thought he would just dodge or block everything.
Anyway, I'm hooked. I cannot wait for more!
It's rare for an anime series to have me really excited to see another new episode each week.
I'm enjoying this a lot.
Ditto.
Glad to see you two are enjoying it so much! ;D
Next week begins the arc that I've been eagerly waiting for since the show started; the Sea Monster arc. Words can't express my excitement to finally see the fight with the Sea King animated. :shakeshakeshake:
:D Now I can't wait either.
I have mixed feelings about the latest episode. I was disappointed by the animation and pacing. In the manga, the art really sells the threat and intensity of the fight of the Sea King, but the anime version feels a lot significant and doesn't exude that same sense of danger, though that improves by the second half when the Sea King starts fighting Sonic. The anime art still doesn't really sell the Sea King as dangerous, though, whereas in the manga he really looked and felt like a true monster, and I think that really hurts the action and tension in the anime version. I'm also really miffed that they didn't adapt the chapter that showed Sonic and Pri Pri Prisoner in prison before they break out. That chapter built up the latter really well, making it more shocking to see him defeated by the Sea King, whereas in the anime you don't have as much reason to be invested in him or care outside of some funny gags. I wish they would have paced this episode differently, adapting that chapter and ending it with either the defeat of Pri Pri Prisoner or the reveal of the Sea King's true form.
Still, I do think the atmosphere and action in the second half of the episode was handled much better than the first half, so I'm hoping the next episode will deliver on the material much better. I feel that the Sea King arc has been given less of a budget to work with so that more money can be put into subsequent arc, specifically Saitama's fight with Boros, which I understand since that'll be the climax of the anime. But since this is my favorite stretch and fight in the manga so far, I'm a bit disappointed that it doesn't work nearly as effectively as it did in the manga. Still really fun and funny stuff, but I think it could've been really incredible if given a bit more polished execution and more of an animation budget, imo.
Ugh, what a cock tease ending.
Yeah, I guess they decided to make Sea King two episodes so that they can adapt Boros in three episodes. Like CX said, this week's episode was good, but it didn't reach the same levels of action or intensity of manga during the Sonic portion.
I'm on episode 3 right now, and it looks like Saitama is fighting a cross between Eva Unit 01 and The Maxx.
"Bargain day at the supermarket!"
I'm about halfway through episode 8, and I've been completely happy with the show thus far.
Between this, Jojo, and Blood Battle Blockade, it seems like anime is starting to get weird again. And I support this movement 100%.
Still need to get around to BBB.
A pretty heartwarming episode. :)
I just finished the latest episode. I haven't been that engaged to anything in awhile. I'm loving how this arc has started. Nice to see Pri Pri learn soemthing from Sea King. Lastly wonder if Meruem's and Killua voice actors were in this episode.
Another great episode this week. I can't wait to see one of my favorite manga fights be adapted in the next ep! ;D
I have finally just finished the last two episodes. A good ending to the series...well at least this part of it. I liked seeing other heroes get to do something besides get their asses kicked. My only complaint is Genos didn't get to do anything. Either way, it felt pretty epic, I had some good laughs and I can't wait until I rewatch this all again. When's those OVAs coming out again?
I was right, Meruem's voice actor, Koki Uchiyama, did in fact voice Melzargard. That is good. I liked that alien more than Boros. Frieza's voice actor played by a character that looks like Piccolo and while very likely not intentional, Meruem's voice actor playing a character that's like Youpi, all in one show. :swoon:
You know, I forgot that I hadn't seen the last 2 episodes of the series yet, so I decided to rectify that tonight. This is still good stuff, and the show ended on a solid note. And Tatsumaki still cracks me up.
I also see that the OVAs have already started. The second is still RAW, but should hopefully be subbed soon. I'll watch the first later this week, since I have other stuff to do now. Maybe by the time I get to it, the second should be subbed.
OMG, they are already being released? Also, you read the manga?

Yeah, it looks like the first one came out a couple of weeks after the last episode aired.
And not yet, but I think that I'll get to it soon!
I definitely want to read them myself. Never been more interested in trying a webcomic.
I wonder if any streaming service I have (Hulu or CR) has it..

A second season is coming! (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-09-25/one-punch-man-tv-anime-gets-2nd-season-game-app/.106871) :joy:
I can't wait to see the Human Monster arc and Garo animated. Though, if Murata hasn't finished it by then, I wonder if they'll either adapt forward from the webcomic or write an original story. Either way, more OPM anime is something to be excited about.
I'm not surprised, but it's good to hear more OPM is on it's way! ;D
Though, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't come out until 2018. In the manga, everything past Garou vs Tanktop Master has been original material written by ONE specifically for the manga and takes place prior to the Monster Association arc. To adapt from the webcomic, Madhouse will need to wait until that original story-line is finished or switch to adapting from the webcomic before the original story-line happens.
On a side note, I've been slowly catching up to the webcomic and I'm really enjoying it. ONE's art is starting to grow on me, surprisingly.
Details on the home video release! (http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2017/02/16/viz-schedules-one-punch-man-home-video-release)
QuoteOne-Punch Man contains episodes 1-12 plus 6 OVAs.
Viz does what Funidon't.
:o Kind of pricey but it does come with 6 OVAs. Any word on those being good?
I'm happy to see that Viz is including the OVAs. I haven't watched them yet, but I know one of them involves Child Emperor being a detective, which is perfect since his jap voice actor also happens to voice Conan in Detective Conan. :D
Season 2 is in production right now. (http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2017/03/28-1/one-punch-man-anime-season-2-in-production)
Are we looking at a Q3 release?
Assuming they've been in production for a while now, I think fall is a likely bet. They spent almost a year on production for the first season after all.
Yeah, a fall season premiere is certainly a possibility. The Monster Invasion arc seems like it will be wrapping up in the manga fairly soon, and while it will probably not be a perfect stopping point since it will likely lead directly into the Monster Association arc, it should provide enough material for a 1-cour season.
