So yeah, we occasionally complain about the off critic every now and then, but what about the ones who actually get it?

Been recently listening to a lot of Mark Kermode, and aside from praising the Twilight movies, I can at least find something to agree with in his reviews.

I listened to Siskel and Ebert (even watched old reviews on movies I missed) even if I didn't agree with them all the time. (Die Hard 2 is the only Die Hard movie to get two thumbs up wtf) But they were always fun to watch and listen to.

But they were good extremes of movie fans who loved the medium and always tried to give everything a fair shot even if they weren't big on the genre. There aren't too many critics like that, I find. Most are too busy either pandering for advertising money, or trying to talk over their audiences heads.

As for music critics; burn them all in a bonfire

This, especially the last sentence.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?

To be honest, while I enjoy hearing or reading some critics' insights into what they think about certain films, I hardly take their opinions as a judgement on whether I think a movie is good or not (for example, I respect Roger Ebert's opinion on The Untouchables, but I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, disagree with him on most of his points).

So, as for me, I take what movie critics say with a grain of salt, but I still respect them enough to listen to their opinions if they are good, and that's MUCH more than I can say for most video game critics/journalists these days. I don't listen to them at all. They can go fuck themselves. As for music, I have never read a music critic's review in my life, so I can't have an opinion on how I feel about that, but it already sounds pretty stupid to me. Music is one of the most subject forms of entertainment there is, in that one song could sound like utter crap to millions of people but be pure gold to millions of others, and there are so many factors to consider from cultural standpoints to the time periods that they were produced in and so on, so really I don't see how anyone could even begin to review a piece of music. A so-called music "critic" has to be one of the dumbest things that I've ever heard of, personally.

It's very hard to review music on an objective level. But critics usually go one of two ways, usually either outright bashing/fellating whatever they're listening to or clumsily trying to speak about it like it's some higher form of art. Music reviews end up being pretty useless for the most part.

I don't know...I tend to find some enjoyment out of movies that Rotten Tomatoes scores really low to mediocre. But I also like critics like JesuOtaku who tried to give Kaze no Stigma a chance, even making it look decent in the first minute, but then revealed how mediocre it really was.

Music by the album seems to be a crapshoot. I hardly buy any US albums, since I figure I have the Internet for that need, so I tend to shop for Asian music. I like to read reviews to make sure I'm getting something decent or at least in the genre I expect. Sometimes there are greatest hits albums where over half of the material was already done on other albums I own. As for critics, reviews in stuff like Rolling Stone are a joke. I liked how college radio had album week before finals, so you could just hear the entire thing and make your own decision.
