You know, as much as I'm skeptical about a remake, I'll admit that this is probably the best way to get a new generation of fans with modern tastes into this series. The level of care going into this production definitely helps win me over a bit as well.

I've actually noticed a number of people who said they could never get into the series because of the length say that they are now willing to try since the remake will have an easily digestible amount of episodes to start with, and should it continue will clearly follow a seasonal model. That will only help to make it more accessible.

I saw the announcement and knew I recognized the name and face. Not sure why my brain lapsed and I didn't make the connection until seeing this post.

Still don't care about the live action, but glad it seems to be coming along well for those who enjoy it. Still, I'm genuinely curious how they would handle some material if they ever managed to get that far (this being a Netflux production, I will honestly be surprised if it even makes it past Water 7). Like, how would they pull off Gear 5 which is explicity designed around the fact that One Piece is made for a hand drawn medium?

Not even the weirdest place I've seen her in. I remember she showed up in that Game of Thrones knockoff FX made, Bastard Executioner, and I was caught off guard by a Lady Melisandre type of character show up and sound like Leela and Peg Bundy.

Yeah, I don't know how long the Netflix show has it in for, especially because the cast isn't all that young- I know Nami's actress is already in her 30's. The bigger issue is Netflix's strategy is not meant for longform television. Releasing eight episodes every 2 years if you're lucky feels counterproductive to television.

And I'm not saying that every show needs to follow network TV's standard, but Game of Thrones was able to consistently release 10 episodes a year until its last season despite arguably being a bigger production.

The anime is on hiatus until April 2025.

I'm not sure what to be surprised more at, the fact that Toei decided to give the anime a hiatus or the fact that they decided to go back and re-edit/animate the Fishman Island arc to make it less of a slog to get through.
