We did a competition thread like this a few years ago back when our board had a different host (a really crappy one, at that). We also had the first half of our top 100 list done a while ago (and we still have yet to put up the rest of its since nobody seems to want to finish off the last couple of entries). At any rate, I wanted to do this thread just for fun, and the rules that apply are exactly the same as they were for the greatest anime thread as well as the currently ongoing greatest manga thread. In this case, though, just like how Yu Yu Hakusho was excluded from being nominated in the last competition since it one, for this video game thread, Ninja Gaiden Black cannot be nominated since it won the competition that we had a few years ago. Anything else is fair game, though, and I'm willing to allow visual novels in as well if you want to count those as video games and have any that you feel are worthy of nomination. Freeware games as well as mobile games are all fair competition, as well, but being that not many people on this board are a fan of those (including myself), I doubt we'll be seeing any of those, anyways.

Now, I'm going to start the nominations with 128 spots, but seeing how many great games there are out there, I can easily at least double that number if we need to. For now, nominate as many great contenders as you can think of. I'll keep the current nomination cap at a maximum of 16 entries per user, but once again, I can lift that cap if need be.

I'm not much of a gamer. I barely play them 10 hours a month, less in recent months. However, I am fond of the following games:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Bros. 2
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Sonic Colors
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver
Pokemon Colosseum

I've been meaning to follow these tournaments, but I always feel too late. I'll get some nominations in for this one now.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (I'd nominate the original Galaxy as well, but I feel it's redundant to have both of them. And 2 seems to be generally more liked on this board, so I'm choosing it.)
Chrono Trigger
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Silent Hill 2
Super Metroid

I'll pick some more later. But there's five of my nominations for now.

System Shock 2
Blood
No One Lives Forever 2
Planescape: Torment
Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly
Borderlands 2

River City Ransom
Ristar

Is Metroid Prime Trilogy being counted as three games, or just as the one set?

For the sake of technicality, it would just be the one set, but if you prefer the first 2 games without the Wii motion controls, then you can think of them as the 3 individual games in one, I suppose. Either way, I've only ever played bits and pieces of these games, so I won't be able to judge them fairly in the actual competition, regardless of which ones we're talking about.

Also, good nominations so far, everyone. I'm going to extend the max nomination cap to 24 nominations per user, now, so you all have 8 more spots left if you already used up what you already had. Here are my other 8 nominations:

Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Super Mario World
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Devil May Cry
Soul Calibur II
Alan Wake

Spark Of Spirit

#9
Gunstar Heroes
Super Smash Bros.
Contra 4
Mega Man Zero Collection
Punch-Out!! (Wii)
Streets Of Rage 2
Double Dragon II (NES)
Klonoa (Wii or PS1, it doesn't matter)

Is MMZC alright? It's 4 games of similar quality and it does have a special mode where you play them all back to back as well as unlockables. I think it would nice to place them this way.

I'll add a few more and leave the rest up to everyone else. ;)

Resident Evil (Remake)
Half-Life
Valkyria Chronicles

Well, if you have a few free spots left that you don't intend to use, do me a favor and nominate Half-Life 2 and Max Payne 2 as well. I would've done it myself, but I ran out of spots. :>

Yeah, collections are allowed as nominations, but it just goes without saying that if you nominate a collection, then its essentially counting all of the games in it as one large game rather than having them be judged as individual pieces.
