Viewtiful Joe
Punch Out
New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Match 16:
The Legend Of Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Super Mario World
Max Payne 2
Kirby's Epic Yarn

Spark Of Spirit

Viewtiful Joe
Kirby's Return To Dreamland
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Punch-Out!!

(Can I just say that all 4 of those are some of my favorite games? That was really hard to rate)

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Max Payne 2
Super Mario World
Kirby's Epic Yarn

(I also liked Epic Yarn, but it was nowhere near as awesome as Wario Land Shake It. That game is massively underrated)

Viewtiful Joe- 17
Punch-Out!! (Wii)- 7
New Super Mario Bros. Wii- 15
Kirby?s Return to Dreamland- 21

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons- 27
Kirby?s Epic Yarn- 15
Super Mario World- 20
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne- 18

Viewtiful Joe, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Super Mario World all move onto the next round. Yet again, all Nintendo games made it through, though to be fair that's kind of expected with 7/8 of these games were Nintendo titles to begin with. That said, I would've voted MP2 higher, but I'm already satisfied with the original game being in the next round.

Round 1:

Match 17:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

vs.

Super Smash Bros.

vs.

Super Mario Sunshine

vs.

Shinobi (PS2)

Match 18:

Fire Emblem: Awakening

vs.

Super Mario Bros. 2

vs.

Super Mario Bros. 3

vs.

Aladdin (SNES)

My Picks:

Match 17:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (The BEST Zelda game ever; anyone who calls it overrated is an ass! :anger:)
Shinobi (A game that gets WAY more flak than it deserves just because it carries the Shinobi title, but its still great)
Super Smash Bros. (It's pretty fun)
Super Mario Sunshine (I didn't quite care for what I played of this game)

Match 18:
Super Mario Bros. 3 (The 3rd best 2D Mario platformer, even though everyone else likes to think that it's the best :P )
Super Mario Bros. 2 (It's not one of my favorite Mario games, but it's still great, all the same)
Aladdin (This one was honestly a filler nomination, but I still think it's great, and much better than the Sega version)
Fire Emblem: Awakening (Haven't played)

Oh, and just for the record: YES! These matches were all randomized in advance. So, it's a complete coincidence that both SMB 2 and 3 ended up being in the same exact match.

talonmalon333

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina if Time (the other games aren't bad, but let's be serious now :P)
2. Super Smash Bros.
3. Shinobi
4. Super Mario Sunshine

1. Super Mario Bros. 3
2. Fire Emblem: Awakening
3. Super Mario Bros. 2
4. Aladdin

QuoteThe 3rd best 2D Mario platformer
:whuh:

EDIT: Oh right, Yoshi's Island.

Super Smash Bros. - My favorite Smash game because it's so simple
Shinobi - Fun action game, even though I'm not big on the draining health thing
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - I'm not the biggest on 3D Zelda but it was fun
Super Mario Sunshine - This was a real disappointment to me

Super Mario Bros. 3 - The BEST Mario platformer even if some people think it's.... 3rd... best
Super Mario Bros. 2 - One of the best platformers ever made, the hate makes no sense to me
Aladdin - And this had to go up against two NES Mario games. Ouch...
Fire Emblem: Awakening - I feel sorry for this one, it's actually pretty cool

You do realize that I purposely said that knowing that it would get under your skin, right? :sly:

It's true that it's only my 3rd favorite (well, 2nd favorite if you don't count Yoshi's Island as a true Mario game), but I'm of the half of the Mario fandom that just likes SMW better. I still love the crap out of SMB3, though, which is why I supported it being ranked as the best game in a certain list that we'll probably never get out because "somebody" doesn't want to finish their entries. ;)

QuoteShinobi - Fun action game, even though I'm not big on the draining health thing

I'm not a fan of the feature, either, but to be fair it doesn't really bother me that much given how lenient the game is about it. Akujiki doesn't directly start draining your health, right away. You have to wait for the Ying-Yang symbol to get completely corrupted, first, which itself takes at least a good solid 30-seconds to do so, IF you just don't kill any enemies and absorb their energy in that time. By this game's nature, you will be moving through environments pretty fast and killing a bunch of enemies along the way (unless you decide to skip a bunch of them). It really only takes killing 1 or 2 enemies at a time to set the Ying-Yang symbol back to normal, and there would still be plenty more to spare after that, so I rarely ever got to the point where my life itself actually started being drained in the game, and even on the few instances that I did, Akujiki drains that pretty slowly as well (and once again, it only takes an enemy or 2 to stop it). So, really, just playing the game as you normally would almost completely negates the health draining aspect of the game, which is why I mostly find it to be a non-issue.

But, is it safe to say that you still really like the game, otherwise? I just find it to be a bit underrated by most people, since even a lot of Nintendo fans will say that the Sega Genesis version is better, and while I enjoy that version, something about this version of the game was just way more up my alley than that one. Unfortunately, most people just seem to brush this version aside or completely forget about it in favor of the Genesis version, which has always kind of annoyed me.

Oh, I thought you meant Yoshi's Island. Well, fine then!  :bleh:

It's not specifically a strike against the game, I've never liked that idea in any game since it was first introduced in the old arcade games. I prefer my time limits and health to be separate. But yes, it's quite the underrated game.

I think every Disney/Capcom game between DuckTales and the N64 is excellent or at least good. The SNES Aladdin is a great platformer that only gets overlooked because Disney animators didn't draw the sprites. If you compare the two games on a general level the Genesis version has worse level design and hit detection.

But yes, it's quite the underrated game.

One thing that I particularly appreciate about it is that it still kept platforming as an integral part of the gameplay, and for the most part it felt pretty challenging but also pretty smooth and fair. If they made a new fully-3D Shinobi game today, I guarantee you that it would just be a Ninja Gaiden or God of War clone. At least Shinobi on the PS2 felt like it had the heart of an old-school side-scroller at its core, and the gameplay was focused on that, just with a 3rd dimension of movement added in to appeal to that generation of gamers.

Or maybe dmc.  :o

When I played it for the first time after many years I was surprised at how much like the old games it was other than the kunai not being able to damage or destroy enemies. It still had the difficulty, the platforming, and the hardcore action, just with a more modern action system at play.

If they did it now... ugh, I don't even want to think about it.

I actually anticipate hearing what Ensatsu-ken has to say when he plays the Mega Man Zero games and Shinobi III. They really do rate up their with the best.

Rank Shinobi at the top and it might change something.

It'd be nice to see a Sega game get through over Nintendo games for once. :sly:

Spark Of Spirit

Well, we still haven't gotten to Ristar or Shinobi III yet.

... which will probably not make it.
