Lots of different picks being made here. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being one of the closest matchups yet, in terms of votes.

My problem with Hellsing is that it's all bloody action and practically no substance. I used to love the manga and OVA series, and I still kind of get a kick out of the OVAs for mindless violence when I'm in the mood or it, but I now see it as nothing more than that. The manga is especially boring because the action scenes are too over-abundant, and the dialogue is atrocious when I read it now. The Major isn't a great villain, to me, because he has no substance. He isn't clever, he doesn't have any level of depth to his character, and he doesn't stand out in any noticeable way other than the fact that he smiles a lot and gives out speeches about how much he loves ware. There is no single level of relate-ability to this character whatsoever, and even in more ridiculous series than this, I find that strong villains can still be understandable in some ways. That's why someone like Meruem rom Hunter X Hunter, despite having some cringe-worthy scenes in the early parts of the Chimera Ant arc, is what I consider to be a better example of a great villain. He's threatening, sure, but beyond that there is a whole layer of depth to his character's philosophy, and the character development he receives throughout his arc is downright fascinating in how it is both unpredictable, but also makes so much sense when you see how his character progresses in context.

As for Alucard, what kind of character development does he even receive? He just smiles a lot and kills people throughout the entire series. I never felt like he learned anything at all. If ANY Helling character got development in the series, it was Seras, who is easily the only character in the series that I still find remotely likable anymore. I also suppose Pip wasn't too bad, but once again he really never had much character beyond him aside from acting like a bad-ass during action scenes and teasing around Seras in his spare time. His death scene meant nothing to me at all because we never really got much time to know his "character" and have him develop before he got killed off. And as the true mark of a very sloppy writer, Kouta Hirano just lazily added in a small back-story for Pip right before his death to try and stir up some form of sympathy for the character, but it just doesn't work for me anymore. A good writer would plant the seeds of something like that way earlier on, and really have you get to know the character through their general dialogue and actions, without any direct exposition. In such a case, by the time you get to that character's flashback, you will have already seen how you could make a connection with how the character is in the present and who they were in the past. With Pip, though, it was just a flashback for the sake of some cheap drama.

I could go on and on, but the bottom-line is that I've kind of grown out of Hellsing. I don't hate it or anything, and I was never bothered by the fact that the villains are Nazis, but I don't find it that interesting when there's really nothing more to the series than some fancy art-design and a lot of blood and gore. I need at least a little bit more substance than that.

I still think Alucard is pretty cool, even though he's not necessarily a good character.

We have a tie between Ratchet and Kirby. Somebody break it before we move on.
