So, while I originally thought I'd make a Greatest Anime Ending Themes tournament after the Opening tournament finished, the competition made me kind of burned out on anime opening/ending themes and having another music competition in general. So, instead of making the Ending theme competition straight away I think I'll make another competition first for a breather. In the Greatest Anime Opening thread we talked about possible alternative competitions to do, and I think the most feasible one to have would be a competition for protagonists/heroes/good guys/not villains etc. Now, I know that the Villains tournament is for characters of all mediums...but we also got 400+ entries for it, and I'd wager, across all mediums, there are enough characters people like and would want in that a general protagonist competition would be similarly large if not larger since there are a lot of great characters out there. Instead, I thought it would just be more manageable if we made multiple different competitions for protagonists based on medium, like we've done with tv shows/movies/comics, then just have one big competition. We're starting off with Anime/Manga protagonists because...well, that's the one I feel the most interesting in doing right now, but eventually I'd like to make competitions for literary, live-action, animated, etc. characters too.

So, then, enough chat, let's get right to it. I'm not going to bother placing limits on nominations, because let's face it, we always lift the limits for these things anyway at some point. Go ahead and nominate as many characters as you like, but I advise everyone to choose characters they really and seriously feel strongly about. I know I'm guilty of over-saturating these competitions with my nominations in previous competitions, so I'm going to promise to you all that after these 20 characters I'm nominating here, I won't nominate any more until time's up and everyone has made their nominations, at which point I will only add enough additional characters to round off the total amount of nominees to a suitable number.

I'd like to start the competition by this saturday or sunday. I feel that should be more than enough time for anyone interested to compile and list their choices.

Though, DMC DOES have both manga and anime adaptations, so technically it counts. I figured I'd at least one-up you by correcting you on that. :D

Of course! From that amazing spin-off manga that Togashi wrote. Now, that's his best work ever. Hiei was definitely better on that series as Kuwabara's side-kick than he ever was on Yu Yu Hakusho. :>
