Thank you.
The Long Goodbye, The Big Sleep, Anna Karenina and Taran Wanderer move on to Round 2.

Round 1, Match 29:

The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Rudolph Wyss

Vs

Mort by Terry Pratchett

Vs

Beloved by Toni Morrison

Vs

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Vs

Pawn in Frankincense by Dorothy Dunnett

---------

My votes:

Pawn in Frankincense - The fourth and best book in Dorothy Dunnett's The Lymond Chronicles. In Pawn in Frankincense, hero (or anti-hero) Francis Crawford and his allies journey into the heart of the Ottoman Empire in order to track down the villain from the previous novel. As usual, Dunnett's writing is impeccable and the confrontations between Lymond and the villain are among the most intense I've read, particularly the final one.
Beloved
Pride and Prejudice
Mort - A good Pratchett, but not one of my absolute favorites

Pharass

Sorry for the wait, guys. I've been looking over the second round and I've decided that this time, each match will be a one-on-one thing: Two novels enter, one novel leave, that sort of thing. Oh, yes, each vote will be worth five points (same as whichever novel you ranked at the top in round 1). With that said, I hereby open round 2.

Round 2, Match 1:

Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

Vs

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

Round 2, Match 2:

Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov

Vs

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!
