Yes, you read the thread title correctly. Anno is making a new Godzilla movie.

This has actually been known for a while, now.

It could be interesting, but while I love Godzilla's original design, and it's certainly cool that this movie pays homage to that, it doesn't really fit the dark tone that this film seems to be going for. And yes, the original Godzilla was dark as well, but the shots of a guy in a Godzilla costume fit quite well with the model cities built on-set. This film doesn't really have Ishir? Honda's experience in working with such sets going for it.

Even so, if this movie succeeds at creating compelling human characters like the original, then the rest really won't matter.

Wondering how this will relate to Legendary's Godzilla movies, or if Toho's hoping to start a new Post-Millennium run of films.

The Japanese government will reference the attacks from that movie and proclaim that it wasn't Godzilla at all, but actually just another MUTO, which they will nickname Cloverfield-Zilla.

Toho made this statement earlier:

QuoteToho has launched what it calls the Godzilla Strategic Conference (Godzi-Con), a committee of studio executives and directors whose aim is to reboot the Godzilla brand, including the new Godzilla pic.

By the same coin, though...

QuoteThe head of the new Godzilla project, veteran producer Taichi Ueda, told the press that . . . "The time has come for Japan to make a film that will not lose to Hollywood."

Wow. Someone's a bit salty...

Hmm. I thought Toho approved of the Legendary reboot, or at least hated it less than the Tristar version.
