Super Mario Bros. has one, but not very many platformers do. Other than making the enemies tougher to defeat or giving the player less health and lives, there isn't much you can do to make a platformer harder than its default difficulty.

Rocket Knight Adventures has a Hard mode. I never tried it, but I hear you die in only one hit on that difficulty.
Since the game was made by the Contra guy, it was almost certain he made the game so it could be doable in this way.

I haven't played it, but from what I've seen, I still like the look of the original more, particularly the ocean. I feel like the remake has to be nice for fixing the slow sailing and overly long Triforce hunt. But since I don't have a problem with either of those, I might stick with the original.
It looks a lot better when you're actually playing it IMO. Horrid bloom aside (I have no idea who thought that was a good idea), it looks just like the original - but better - to me.

So fake difficulty, like Shinobi III?

Didn't he make Contra Hard Corps? :thinkin:

I wish they would do like Mega Man 3, I believe, did with harder versions of stages after you beat the Robot Masters. Basically, level design makes the levels harder and not just taking your life away.

The same director of Contra III, Hard Corps, and Shattered Soldier made Rocket Knight Adventures. There are multiple difficulties, though the highest one basically makes it like Contra with a sword instead of a gun.

Yeah, Mega Man 3 really had a cool idea with the Doc Robot stages which is a shame they never brought them further. On the other end, Mega Man 9 and 10 have harder modes as DLC but I never got them because I'm sane and because that doesn't seem worth the money to me.

I haven't played it, like I said, but I don't know if I'd necessarily call it fake, either. When I did play the game, there wasn't a single time that I felt I had suffered a cheap death, and to my knowledge, any attack or obstacle in the game is completely avoidable with skill. That said, I'd have to play through it for myself to see for sure if its really as well-balanced on that difficulty as it should be, based on my play-through of the game on Normal difficulty.

Ok, now I get the Contra comparison.

And yes, more Doc Robot-esque levels would have been great and Mega Man on hard mode does sound like insanity.

Have you played the Master Quest mode?

Hero mode? Nope. I might try that someday, though.

Favorite series

01. Street Fighter
02. Metal Gear Solid
03. Devil May Cry
04. Shenmue
05. Mass Effect
06. Uncharted
07. Halo
08. Assassin?s Creed 2 Ezio Saga

This will probably be my end all be all list here. As you can see I can't even come up with 10 videogame series. Modern or classic, I'm very picky about what I play. If it didn't interest (I mainly watch gameplay footage) me back then you can bet that I'm not going to bother trying it now. Only way I'll try some of these "classics" (and not necessarily just classics, but games in general) is if I'm actually curious about the game to begin with.

That being said, 1-4 don't really need much of an explanation since they're fairly the same (in terms of my explanation on why I like them), however, as far as Street Fighter goes, this will probably be the only time you see me speak about being nostalgic. I grew up on Street Fighter. Yes I was born in the age of the NES, and I also had a SNES and Genesis, but the moment I got my hands on Street Fighter 2 no other game really existed to me. I was very competitive (not tournament competitive, but I took it very seriously. Lose I would get salty. Win I'm popping off). That went on for quite some time, I think up to the Alpha series, and at that time I had to take a step back because I was cursing people out (I think I was roughly 10-11) at that point. SF3 came out and at that point I was turned off mainly because of the characters, and, well, the rest is history. Tried 3D fighters for a bit, but nothing clicked outside of Tekken Tag Tournament and Dead or Alive 2, but eventually I got bored of fighters altogether and stopped playing them. Fast forward to SF4, thanks to my brother-in-law I'm back into fighting games (2D fighters only). Not nearly as competitive, but I'm aiming to get good nevertheless.

Mass Effect. I first got my hands on Mass Effect in 2011, and at that time I was burnt out on JRPGs, and decided to make the shift to WRGs just to see what they were like and I remember liking Jade Empire. Even though the ME series is practically a TPS, it was something different from your average JRPG and to me it was a breath of fresh air. ME2 was 10x better than the first, and I was hooked from there. Are the ME games flawed? Yes. Do I care? Not really. They keep me entertained so whatever.

Uncharted. A trend I've been seeing as of late is hate on the Uncharted series just because. Okay cool. Have you played the game? Did you watch any gameplay footage (I'll excuse anyone for saying yes but still don't find it appealing because I do the same thing)? If the answer is no to both then why are you talking? Anyway, I'm going off on a tangent. I find the series to be great. It's a typical TPS but it keeps me entertained. Drake's sarcasm also keeps me coming back as well. Summer blockbusters.

Nothing to really say about Halo that I haven't said already. Assassin?s Creed on the other hand. The Ezio saga only. People bash this game a lot too, and to be honest some is justified, some is not. Personally I only like the Ezio saga. Ezio is a very charismatic and I like that. Granted it's fiction I like Ubisoft's take on the locations. Story wise, I try to pay attention but then I get lost in trying to do so, so I just play. Another series I'd use for taking out my anger. Walk around assassinating people never felt better.

Note to self, don't use Google Drive anymore.

Series, huh? I suppose I'll take a crack at it.

1. Mario franchise
2. Zelda
3. Donkey Kong Country
4. KOTOR
5. Devil May Cry
6. Half-Life
7. Ninja Gaiden
8. Jedi Knight
9. Halo (Bungie)
10. Sonic

In case you're wondering, input NG lower on my list as an overall series because of the most recent games dragging it down so much. I hope you're happy, Team Ninja Dog and Hayashit.

Favorite franchises huh...

1. Pokemon
2. Mario
3. Donkey Kong Country

Spark Of Spirit

1. Mario
2. Zelda
3. Contra
4. OutRun
5. Shinobi
6. Kirby
7. Mega Man
8. Sonic (that bad period really dragged it down)
9. Ratchet & Clank (mainline)
10. Donkey Kong Country (lowest number of games here, so the hardest to rank)

I would like to say I came up with that on my own, but I sadly stole it from the Nina Gaiden community.
