Favorite Games Ever (Besides Ninja Gaiden, Obviously)

Didn't you or someone else already ask that question last year?

Anyways, my answer is the same as before. It depends on the type of game that I'm playing:

2D games:
6-Button Genesis Controller or MadKatz Fightpad (which is modeled after the Genesis controller)

For most games those extra buttons aren't ncessary, but in some cases may improve the controls in games that allow you to assign button commands. They are also extremely useful in fighting games. As for the d-pad, it covers 8-directions with good precision, so you can't do much better than that, and the controller feels both light and responsive, with good button feedback.

3D Games:
XBOX360 Controller

I find that the stick placement is a lot more comfortable and intuitive than with other controllers, and many people agree, hence why a lot of generic unlicensed game pads for PCs usually model themselves after that style. I also legitimately like the use of the triggers for the lower shoulder buttons, which feel great and responsive and just sensitive enough where you can get different responses in certain games depending on how softly or forcefully you press down on either trigger. The face buttons are also just in a really good spot. My main problem with the Wii-U Pro Controller is how I moves the face buttons down lower than the right analogue stick, which feels really uncomfortable when I have to utilize both those and shoulder buttons regularly in any given game. A lot of people may claim that they like the stick placement better just because they are perfectly parallel, but putting looks aside, I still say that the 360 placement is far better in terms of actual functionality and comfort level. It's basically the perfect fix to everything that was wrong with the original XBOX controller, including the size.

360 controllers for 3d games and shoot em ups that use the right analog stick and have little to no jumping (think smash tv). i haven't used anything else besides a cell phone, computer and/or ps3 controller to play 2d games so no comment on that.

2D games would be every Nintendo and Sega controller outside of the Gamecube and Dreamcast controller. The Fightpad is pretty good for PC games, too.

3D games I'm good with any of them except the PS1 pre-dual shock and PS3 triggers. I adapt to anything with an analog stick pretty quick.

things i don't like about some of my favorite games:

gunstar heroes: boss fights vs. pink. both battles are annoying.

streets of rage remake: the jet ski and bike levels. they are the only thing i hate about this near perfect game. the attacks are too limited compared to the other enemies. having to fight the jack clone with the chain is brutal. i can lose as much as one or almost two continues on just one of these sections. they are nowhere as great as similar stages in shinobi 3 and tmnt 4.

Top 10 (3D) Third Person Action/Adventure Games:

10. Alan Wake
9. Vanquish
8. Devil May Cry
7. Bayonetta
6. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
5. Resident Evil 4
4. Max Payne
3. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (Special Edition)
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
1. Ninja Gaiden Black

Upon thinking about it, I do count TPS games as Action/Adventure so long as the adventure element is still there. In this list, I excluded platformers and certain other games like the Jedi Knight series based on technicalities, as well as RPGs. The focus here is on games with a heavy focus on real-time action and at least some focus on adventure elements, which involves things such as exploration, puzzle solving, and any in-game methods to advance the plot outside of action sequences. Based on all of that, these are my favorites.

Other than the ridiculous story, I thought Dead to Rights Retribution was a pretty fun beat em up/TPS. Did you ever get around to trying that?

i wanted to play it myself after the praise you gave it awhile ago. i actually liked what i played of the 1st game, which was hokey and really hard (i had to basically play irritating stick to disarm a bomb, iirc. seriously). so i will probably like retribution.

Nintendo just announced Wii games for the Wii U. Super Mario Galaxy 2, Punch-Out Wii, and Metroid Prime Trilogy. All will be ten bucks in their first week of release.

If you have a Wii U and have never played any of these games, well, you don't have much of an excuse now.  :P

Super Mario Galaxy 2

King of weird that they are releasing this for the Wii U and not SMG1, or both. Either way, this is a good pick. I'm curious how it'll look in HD.

Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Finally. I mean, I own the game, but people were asking for this for a while. :P

I'm hoping for the more obscure Wii games to get a release. Games like Kororinpa would be ideal. Still, Gamecube games would have been nice.

I got SMG2 for the ten bucks, by the way. Just in case the next Nintendo system doesn't play Wii discs.  ;)

I feel like Mario Galaxy 1 would benefit more from HD. It kind of looks better nowadays and is generally grander in scope. 2, though it looks fantastic, has a bit more of a typical Mario color pallet and comes across as "smaller".

i forgot about mafia 2 when i named my favorite open world game. either that or red dead redemption is my favorite.

Never got around to it. Don't know if there's much sense in doing it now.
