Favorite video game characters. Okay.

1. Kirby (Kirby series) - His cute, he's tough, and he faces nightmare creatures from beyond the pale.
2. Luigi (Mario series) - He's cowardly and clumsy, but better than Mario when he applies himself. See: his jump, poltergust, and Smash Bros. moveset.
3. Zero (Mega Man Zero) - He's fun in the X games, but he makes the Zero series. He doesn't whine or mope-- he takes action even when massively outnumbered and the world is falling apart. When you play as him, you actually feel like you're playing as a legendary warrior. Which is perfect.
4. Musashi - (Brave Fencer Musashi) - A rude kid who wields two legendary swords, is underestimated by everybody, and throws giant mechs through walls. Musashi is a pleasure to play as.
5. Francis York Morgan (Deadly Premonition) - Calm, cool, and collected. He appears to be an oddball, until you get to know him.
6. Classic Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog series) - I like modern Sonic, too. But the old school Sonic who always has a face for everything instead of a long speech is slightly preferred to me. He's cool, he's cute, and he can mess you up.
7. Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island series) - Best point and click protagonist. Has something clever to say about everything.
8. Ratchet (Ratchet & Clank series) - I didn't care for his first appearance, but now I can't imagine playing as anyone else in these games.
9. Link (Wind Waker) - My favorite silent protagonist in any adventure game. His expressions are everything.
10. Sabin (Final Fantasy VI) - Best Final Fantasy character.

Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island Series)
James Sunderland (Silent Hill 2)
Big Boss & The Boss (Metal Gear Series)
Ganon (The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker) - by far the best rendition of the character
Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil 2 and 4) - both for different reasons

I challenge anyone to not pick SMB3 as their favorite NES game.

It's hard because it's so good, but I could see someone put something like Mega Man 2 or River City Ransom above it if they prefer more action based and less traditional platformers.

But it's sort of like not picking Pitfall for best Atari 2600 game. You can't really ignore it as one of the best for the system.

SMB3 isn't even my favorite of the NES Mario games...
It doesn't matter what you say, soon you'll be dead anyway.

I just realized my list is basically a top 78 games list.  :P

Great choices! Valkyria Chronicles 3 looked so good that I was annoyed they never released it over here, and now it looks like the series is done.

Oh well, hopefully Code Name STEAM will pick up the slack on it.

I highly recommend Mega Man IV and V for the Game Boy. They're top notch platformers. (Also on the eshop!)

There's a lot of good stuff out there. Judging by your tastes, you'd really like Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Shinobi 3DS, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Rhythm Thief.

Also, there are some really good DS games you could play on it like Radiant Historia (Best Atlus game), Solatorobo, Aliens Infestation, and Henry Hatsworth. In addition, Space Invader Extreme 2 (thank you for the rec, RSW!) might be the best version of Space Invaders ever. The DS had a great library.

Thanks! I noticed that our lists have a lot of overlap at times. :joy:

Fortunately, there's an English patch for VC3 now (and if you're like me and don't want to hack your PSP to install it, you can watch the story on YouTube), so it's easily playable as an import these days. :)

Eagerly awaiting Code Name STEAM as well. ;)

Both are on my infinitely lengthy wishlist. Hopefully I will play them someday soon!

Yeah, for sure! Both DSes have awesome libraries, it's just that I get too sidetracked with all the great home console and PC games out there.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Great list!

Also, I forgot about handhelds:

Game Boy/Color:
1. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages
2. Pokemon Gold/Silver
3. Super Mario Land

Game Boy Advance:
1. Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
2. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
3. Sonic Advance

Nintendo DS:
1. Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

And....yeah, I haven't really played much of the modern handheld systems, unfortunately.

Spark Of Spirit

If you get a Wii U, you can download GBA games. I'm sure you'll enjoy the MMZ, Castlevania, and Metroid games a great deal. DS is also apparently coming to the VC there, too.

On another topic I just noticed IGN gave both God Hand and Double Dragon Neon the same score. Do they really have no one there that knows anything about beat em ups? Like, at all? This is about as annoying as journalists that have never played a Genesis game or know what Yoshi's Island is reviewing retro games.
