Yeah, you all get the idea by now.

Anyways, I would love it if somebody could recommend me some good noir films of any type. I won't have the chance to watch them immediately, but they will be great to sit through when I finally get some time off during my Spring break next month.

Did you check my noir thread out?

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Oh, yeah, good point, but you could still elaborate on which of the ones that you listed in that thread you think might be more appealing to me than others. ;)

Out of these, you should see the three Wilder flicks (Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity, and Ace in the Hold), because I say so, In a Lonely Place since it's classic Bogie, and Out of the Past and Laura since they have all the classic noir elements: intertangled plots, morally ambiguous characters, femme fatales, and razor-sharp dialogue.

The others are worth seeing too, obviously, but I'll recommend these first.

Also, Lord Dalek said watch Kiss Me Deadly. That's on my queue now.

I saw that on TV. It's really good.

Has anyone here seen An American in Paris before?

I loved Sngin' in the Rain, but never had much interest in seeing this one. After just discovering that "Symphony in Slang" was put on it's DVD release however, I'm willing to give it a chance if I can find it for cheap.

I keep seeing An American In Paris stocked up at Costco. It's in my family's top 5 ever.

Oh, I forgot to mention. I saw Kiss Me Deadly a few nights ago.

Yeah, definitely add it to the list.

So I was revisiting Django Unchained and The World's End recently, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some recommendations for movies that have really stylish fight scenes like the following two:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6mv-WVnYb4 (this was the only video I could find, sorry; ignore the Minecraft shit, the real scene is in the bottom right corner)

I love these, they're so cool and blood-pumping, particularly with the way they're edited and utilize music. Thanks guys!

For shoot-out scenes, I can only think of John Woo movies like Hardboiled, The Killer, and A Better Tomorrow. If you haven't seen any of them, I highly recommend them. They have some of the best action choreography ever, and IMO put most big-budget Hollywood action flicks of today to shame, in that particular department. Desperado also has excellent shoot-out scenes, but I'm assuming that you've already seen that one.

I'm not sure about the hand-to-hand fighting. I can only think of martial arts films for that, of which I haven't seen that much of. The best I can personally think of is Ip Man, which I recall you saying that you've seen, so I'm not sure what else, unless for some reason you haven't seen Drunken Master 2, which is both an excellent martial arts film AND comedy, but who hasn't seen that film already?

I love Hardboiled and Desperado. :joy: Yeah, I've seen both Ip Man and Drunken Master films; they were very enjoyable. I really do need to watch more John Woo movies, though.

aren't there 3 ip man movies now? good man for seeing 2 and both drunken masters. i actually cant watch those scenes on my phone so i just said spl because it has the most stylish fight scene i could think. but since we are recommending donnie yen films now, i strongly recommend iron monkey, once upon a time in china 2, flashpoint and in the line of duty iv. along with ip man, those are his best movies. also, for stylish fights, watch the rebel starring johnnie nguyen and police story has incredible fights and an amazing shootout at the beginning.

I've only seen the first Police Story, myself. The fights in that are OK by 80's Jackie Chan standards (which I consider to be very high), but it still works really well as a comedy. The fight scenes in 2 are amazing, though, but I've only seen those on YouTube, and haven't actually watched the full movie itself.
