Is it time for Adult Swim to change?

Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

The Return of the King! Interesting that adult swim got Family Guy back on the menu after how even before they lost the license they didn't even get the most recent seasons. Guess adult swim needs their Fox shows to live.

But how much is it really gonna accomplish? I'm sure it'll get relatively decent ratings, but FG already airs on at least 4 other channels. Good chance their reruns of Family Guy will end up competing with other reruns of Family Guy. It's like if another broadcaster announced they were airing reruns of Friends. Cool for people too lazy to change the channel to TBS, Nick@Nite, or any local network?

Okay, I'm sure I asked this before here, but what's even the actual strategy in starting Adult Swim on 5 PM when they're still airing shows and movies aimed at kids at that time? Is it like an advertising thing, like advertisers are more willing to throw ads depending on the block regardless of what the block airs? Because it gets pretty silly seeing kids' movies with the AS logo, or when they forget to change it so you get the reverse problem.

Sure, it's a very open secret at this point that CN doesn't have anybody in charge of scheduling anymore, what with premiering shows aimed at children at 12 AM, but what's stopping it from getting more absurd? Like AS starting at 12 PM, reruns of Powerpuff Girls and Cow & Chicken after midnight, and they premiere that new Iyanu show at 4 AM?

To think that this time of year a few years ago was when Adult Swim would lose an hour just so companies could advertise for the holidays. I do wonder when Adult Swim will fully take over the network considering how zombie mode CN proper is.

Looks like Checkered Past is fucked.
KOTH is reclaiming the 6PM hour on December 30.

Dr. Insomniac

How long until CN devolves to airing COPS and Cheaters?

Daxdiv

I'll give it 6 months and that's being generous. Waiting for the day they air Impractical Jokers on the network.

I never did watch Checkered Past beyond seeing a couple promos on YouTube. My biggest impression of the block was raising an eyebrow when I saw Cartoon Network fans on other forums go "I'm so excited to watch CP!" with no thought for why shortening it to those initials might sound horrible. Yeah, Cartoon Planet had the same initials, but it came out back when that had a very different connotation than it has now. It's like if back in the 00s, CN made a preteen-friendly block called "Adult Swim Lite" and shortened it to ASL while making the most tone deaf ads. Or if Disney Channel had a block called "Disney's Video Domain Avenue".

Checkered Past has lost most of it's appeal to me when CN started to air a bunch of their shows from the 2010's on their channel like Regular Show and Looney Tunes Show on a regular basis. It does make me wonder why they couldn't just air shows like Dexter's Lab or Ed Edd N Eddy on the regular network, while also not adding such shows as Powerpuff Girls or Johnny Bravo to Checkered Past. Like, those 2 are pretty the biggest foundation of the Cartoon Cartoons brand and they have yet to even air on the block.

For The Powerpuff Girls, Craig McCracken is (or maybe was?) developing a new series, so keeping that off Adult Swim makes since. We wouldn't want PPG to be associated with the AS brand.

As for Johnny Bravo... I'm not sure. They aired the pilot when WAC was airing, so I don't see why they can't just air the series. Maybe CN DID write it off years ago? There's no confirmation, but that's my only guess.

But they're already associating the AS brand with children's movies, many that are part of franchises Warner owns. They were more than happy to air the Wonka films and Superman II under the AS branding, and those series are bigger to children than PPG ever was. Besides, I never got any indication that CN was particularly protective of the PPG brand. If they were, that CW pilot wouldn't have been produced in the first place.

February 17-21: Checkered Past is ENTIRELY What-a-Cartoon all week, including some shorts that haven't been seen in decades!
