I think every single episode is nearly perfect, but yeah, it does get a lot better in season 2. :)

Either the reported ratings are wrong or it's the core demographic ratings  that must have gone up even though total viewer ratings are down. That's good to hear. The new season order allows the show to meet the syndication limit. I don't know whether FX plans to renew past that, but that's still a great number of episodes left to enjoy.
I'm not 100% sure about Archer's ratings situation, but the core demographic is what the networks pay attention for in terms of ratings nowadays, as opposed to total. For a while, Archer was one of the biggest shows in the demo on cable, so it's always been a bit of a big deal for them. If the core demo's ratings are up, that must be what has given FX enough faith to renew the show in bulk.

Im about 4 episodes into season 2, and the show really seems to have found its footing and is just on the verge of hitting its stride. The funny thing is that I can't quite place my finger on what the improvement is, yet, but every single episode from this season has ranged from good to balls-out-hilarious, so far.
I think Adam Reed and co just really got a hold on the characters by this point. Ray's addition into the field was a great one, since he works so well with both Archer and Lana, while the office plots become increasingly tighter and funnier, especially since Krieger was fully integrated at this point. It was all starting to really click.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Did he give reasons why these in particular are his favorites? That's something I'd like to hear.

I would say that "Skytanic," "Placebo Effect," and "Southbound and Down" are favorites of mine as well. "Swiss Miss" is a good episode but I think there are episodes much better than it. I'm curious as to why that episode out if many other choices is up there as one of his most favorite episodes.

Yeah, he gave brief answers to each of them. I didn't get the Entertainment Weekly issue it was in, so I can't quote them, though.

But I do remember that Reed  and EW really like the BS&P story behind "Swiss Miss" (in that the titular miss was supposed to be right at the age of consent for Germany, but the network was like nooooo), and "Southbound and Down"was chosen for being an awesome full-out tribute to Smokey and the Bandit.

That's nice. If I'm ever up late and have the tv on, I could go for some random Archer, South Park, and Futurama episodes back to back.

Archer is my favorite cartoon at the moment, I own seasons 1-4, and still need to catch up on 5 (not my favorite, but it kinda grew on me). Archer is uproariously funny, and it actually takes a lot of knowledge and intelligence to get a lot of the humor. Even my 59 year old father was impressed by it. My favorite episode was episode 8 of Season 3. I laughed so hard I cried, and kept laughing until I couldn't breathe anymore.

"I have a question mother! Why does this chair have no seat, and what," looks under the seat where the dead prime minister is bound, dead and in a full-body rubber suit, "is in his ASS?"

"Oh please, don't tell me you've never seen a... marital aid before."

"Not in a dead Prime Minister's ASS!"

"Will you shut up, we have already established where it is."

Yeah, I haven't liked season 5 as much as the previous 4 (or as much as I thought I would), so I'm kind of glad it's getting debooted next year.

Same here! The first time I watched that was probably the hardest I've laughed in my whole life.

Season 5 worked for what it was- a necessary break for the show, and a chance to try something new. With Vice wrapped up, the next season should be a fresher return to form than the previous 2 seasons were.

It's official- the show is retiring ISIS

I wasn't sure what, or if they'd do anything, but this makes a lot of sense.

It seems kind of dumb to me, since the terrorist group doesn't even go by ISIS, at least not anymore(they go simply by "IS"/Islamic State now), the only reason that anyone calls them "ISIS" is because the news media has latched on the term.  If CNN and NBC and the rest would refer to them as the "IS"/Islamic State then this wouldn't even be an issue.  It's the same thing with the metal band Isis, which had to change the name of their FB page a few weeks back.

Then again, to me "Isis" will always refer to a female character who morphes into a black cat in the original Star Trek series...
It doesn't matter what you say, soon you'll be dead anyway.
