Spark Of Spirit

I'll definitely get BBB if I see it.

Which reminds me, another album they had was the Yes Album. I'm kind of regretting not picking it up.

So my friend and I made this unofficial "Best of" from Priest in the 80's. Since most of their 80's stuff sucks.

Rapid Fire
The Rage
The Hellion/Electric Eye
Bloodstone
(Take These) Chains
Screaming for Vengeance
Freewheel Burning
Jawbreaker
Ram It Down

Download these and buy Unleashed in the East and Painkiller, and you've got all the Judas Priest you need.

QuoteTHD Interview by Abigail Sweetwater

I've known Germ (Jeremy Page), and Godforbid for almost three years now, and I can confidently say: anyone who's listened to all of That Handsome Devil's albums, knows them just as well. They are the music they make. But that by no means has slowed the constant flood of questions that I, and I'm sure most of you, are dying to ask. They communicate in jokes, and stern opinions, and while hanging out any random night, I can't help but think "someone else should be hearing this!" So I decided to sit down, and make it happen.

A: how do you write your songs?

JP: Shitty question, next..

A: Come on, these questions aren't for me they're for the people.

JP: What people?

GFB: The ones who live in the computer, and come to the shows.

A: Yeah, those people.

GFB: It's easy really; I eat life, and shit words, and he eats life and shits music.

JP: Some people eat life, and shit carpentry.

GFB: Yeah, I wish I was one of those people, I'd build a cabin... out of shit. A: Alright guys, you know how I love to talk about poo..

JP: Magic poo.

A: Okay, yes, speaking of magic poo; I think people would say your music has a bit of mystisim to it. GFB: We burn incense and sacrifice goats while recording.

JP: Yup, a lot of dead goats.

GFB: Yes it is; it's getting so now we do it just to watch their expression change, though to be fair their expressions change very little.

A: I thought it smelt like dead goat in here.

GFB: But really; I don't know if it's mysticism, I'd say more paranoia and escapism.

A: What do you think about pop music today?

JP: We don't.

GFB: The whole things become lip service; rock and roll and hip hop are clothing choices, and the attitudes an accessory.

JP: How many fucking songs can you write about dancing?!

GFB: Yeah, America's obsession with singing and dancing is ridiculous, we need plumbers and engineers, everyone just wants to prance around on camera, or throw a ball for a living.

A: Well what about you guys, what's the difference?

JP: He writes, and I make music.

GFB: What we do on stage is just the only delivery method available. It's not some choreographed seal clapping.

JP: There's also a lot of good new music out there.

GFB: Definitely. I'm constantly hearing new, innovative and beautiful artists.

A: Can you name some?

JP: I don't listen to any of em', I just know they're there.

A: If someone didn't know you, and just saw your online following, they would think you were doing quite well, but you're not, you're poor, how does that work out?

JP: Well, we don't have a manager, we don't have a label, and we don't have any financial backers, where we've gotten is through word of mouth. All we make goes into keeping the whole thing going.

GFB: It's not hotel art, it has opinion, so some disagree with it.

A: But it seems like those who do agree feel very strongly about it.

JP: So do we.

GFB: We're not those guys that would strum guitars in the corner of parties, or got into music to get laid. Those people annoy the shit out of me. We started doing what we do as a means of coping with an outsider existence, those are the artists that always spoke to me.

The good 4-

Annihilator, Overkill, Testament, Kreator

To replace the big 4. Maybe replace either Overkill or Testament with Coroner, Death Angel or Metal Church.

Although the "big 4" is an awful term to begin with, and only exists because Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax were on sublabels for major studios, as opposed to considerably smaller independent labels like Metal Blade that would hold the other thrash bands back in the day. It was pointless elitism back in the 80's, and a dated reference now.

You know, if we were to do a greatest artists list, my one major request would be that we don't fap to the Beatles. There is no reason that Rubber Soul should be above The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, or that Sgt. Pepper should be above Pet Sounds or Freak Out!

I'd also say Kick for #1 or bust. But that would be a harder case.

Bringing this thread back, I found the following albums for $5 at WalMart besides the few mentioned before:

  • The first Skid Row
  • The Van Halen albums made inbetween s/t and 1984
  • Tres Hombres
  • Hair of the Dog
  • Permeant Waves
  • Motherfucking Full Moon Fever

Some real gold to find if you're trying to start a collection up, like me.

Mine didn't have any of those.

Though I got the best of Huey Lewis at least. For $5 that's hard to pass up.

Fucking finally. I'm glad they pulled a Journey/Foreigner. Everything I've heard since Promised Land was shit and Dedicated To Chaos was some of the worst dreck ever. And cabaret shows? Fuuuuuck that. I'm glad they booted his ass out (dude doesn't even take care of his voice anymore, so he sounds worse with each new album) and I'm very curious as to what they can do left to their own devices. My interest in the band is rekindled.

Avaitor

Yeah, I think it was a mercy firing myself. He seriously had one of the best voices in rock back in the 80's and early 90's, but he's blown it out over the years. I still love their earlier work, but their newer stuff is dreadful. Mindcrime II is so inferior to the original that it's not even funny, and American Solider? Cripes. That cover album was blah too.

I'm just surprised that they let Geoff go. He's the biggest name of the band, and it doesn't seem like it was his idea to leave.

Well, recently he was locking the other band members from the FB page when they wanted to advertise Rising West, while he still used it to promote his wine collection. Methinks that was part of the final straw.

Never let your singer's wife be the band manager, I guess.  :awesome:
