First of all, the Sabbath reunion ain't happening. A reporter misunderstood Iommi, and got our hopes up for nothing. Forget about that, for now.

But as for new Opeth, holy shmoly. There's next to no death metal in there now. Instead, there's traces of just about everything else. Swedish folk, jazz, traditional heavy metal are the most common trends in it. It all sounds so good, too. Mikael Åkerfeldt isn't doing his so-so death growls and is belting out his sweet normal singing voice instead, which I consider to be a far better substitute, and easier for new listeners to get into. The rest of the band, themselves, are incredible.

The wait was worth it. Now to check out the new Peste Noire.

You guys probably know about how much I enjoy Iced Earth, so with the new album out today, of course I had to check it out. It's pretty eh though. The new singer is okay, but I think he tries to sound too much like Barlow and Ripper for most of it.

I might give it some more time, though. Schaffer's lyrics are solid from what I can tell, and it just might be a grower.

Hmm, albums. I've been listening to music, but it's mostly either been stuff for reviewing on the Metal Archives or old favourites of mine. Gin by Cobalt is an awesome album. Listened to it as couple days ago, yet again.

I span Gin a bunch when it came out, but I haven't listened to it much in a while.

Uh, I can't really recall the last new album that really blew me away, although some great stuff came out this year. Probably the new Cynic EP.

Not listening to Gin at least once a month is bad for your health. I'm an unforgiving Cobalt fangirl.

I was blown away by quite a few albums this year. Mostly the new Septic Flesh and Blut Aus Nord.

Anyways, I've been binging on !T.O.O.H.! and Astral Sleep a lot lately, mostly for reviewing purposes. I love !T.O.O.H.!, but I really need to be in the mood for Astral Sleep (though they're also quite good, very doomy and very Finnish in their style).

So uh, apparently a new Van Halen album is dropping on February 7th, the first one in nearly 30 years to feature Diamond Dave.  A new single, titled "Tattoo", also debuts next week.

Thoughts?  I think this is either gonna be really really bad(like, Chinese Democracy bad), or it'll kick ass.  I love Dave, so I'm hoping for the latter.  It's been so long since "Hot For Teacher" and "Panama", do they still got it?

I'm interested. Word around town from those who've heard the new stuff is pretty positive, but some of the good words come from those who also like St. Anger and Chinese Democracy, so it could go either way.

So I don't know how many fans are on the board, but apparently At The Drive In, a post-hardcore band who was somewhat popular in the mid to late 90's and into the early 2000's(and are pretty influential; think along the lines of Jawbreaker or Fugazi), is reuniting after being apart for ten something years.  I honestly have mixed feelings, because while I liked them back when, there's just some things that I think are better off staying in the past.  I'd probably have the same feelings if Jawbreaker announced they were reforming.

That and I haven't listened to or thought about them in quite some time.

Personally, I'm much more excited for Refused's reunion at Coachella than ATDI.
