Unless Goldeneye's story mode is kind of bad despite what my nostalgia says, no way is it worse than Perfect Dark's. I can't remember the last time I had so much frustration with a game's campaign. Unless MS severely fucked up the game's mode, Perfect Dark is one of the most severely overrated games ever made.

GoldenEye's story is the same as the movie's, but it doesn't hide the fact that anything you do with Natalya is atrocious and the final boss is stupid. The PD campaign is hardly flawless either, but at least you never have to escort anyone as useless as Natalya.

-Similar to how Desensitized said he doesn't like gore in ninja games, that's pretty much how I feel about fighting games, hence why I could never get into stuff like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. It just doesn't feel right to me to have exaggerated amounts of blood come out of punching your opponents around. But to be honest, even beyond those aspects, I don't really think that the old-school MK games hold up that well. I respect them for what they are, but I just can't find them as fun as any of the Capcom or SNK fighting games.

-I'm sorry to say this, but the more and more I think about the Batman Arkham games, the more and more I find them to be incredibly overrated. Now that enough time has passed for the novelty of them being actual decent Batman games, it makes me realize that they really only are decent action games at best. I hardly understand why they are considered to be among the greatest action games of all time. In terms of combat, there's no way in hell they compare to the likes of Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, and Bayonetta, or even God of War, for that matter. In terms of stealth, they aren't exactly MGS or Spinter Cell quality. And in terms of exploration and puzzle solving, they don't come anywhere close to the best Zelda and Metroid games, IMO. These games are an amalgam of the formulas of other games, but it doesn't really make a game that's greater than the sum of its parts, as much as these games feel like a combined sample platter of much better games that fully explore their own respective aspect that's adapted into the Arkham games more in depth than either of those games. The short version of what I'm trying to say is that the Batman Arkham games are merely just adequate imitators of much better games with a Batman skin layed over them. Also, the story in the Batman Arkham games are nowhere near the level of quality of what you would get out of any BTAS episodes or the Nolan movies, so its not like they are all that great on that aspect, either.

I still think Arkham Asylum is really good, but City was a huge letdown for me.

Personally, I've just grown a general distaste for both of them, to a degree where I have kind of started making a mental list of more flawed games than these that I would still rather play than either of these games. Not because they are bad, because they are most certainly not, but more-so because they just feel shallow.

Foggle

Personally, I would consider many of the Infinity Engine and Shin Megami Tensei games to be among the greatest ever made, but for some reason I can never find myself placing them on my favorites list. I guess it's because, while I do admire the excellent writing and character development that goes into them, I just don't think they're all that "fun".

I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I've never seen anyone talk about this subject much. I want to see more Mystery games. Despite games like LA Noire and Heavy Rain, I still feel like its way too untapped a genre for games that I believe could be explored more.

A game where you really have to go above and beyond everywhere to find clues, a good gameplay-focusing interrogation sytem for suspects; and really well-done heroic and villainous characters are I think a good equation. Or it can be something simple like the Phoenix Wright series, or the Detective Grimoire game that's supposed to come out on cellphones that was delayed.

Have you played Hotel Dusk? It is one of my favorite DS games.

No, but it's likely to still be in Gamestops right? If so, I'll look into it. Handheld mystery games would be great too, I just really want the genre to get some love from consoles as well.

Hotel Dusk is cheap if you can find it. Also keep an eye out for 999: 9 Persons 9 Doors and 9 Hours for the DS. It's surprisingly good as well.

Cool, thanks for the recommendations man!  And if you can think of any more console or DS/3DS let me know.

Man, I need to get into Hotel Dusk. I bought it about two years back used and never touched it. And I loved Trace Memory.

Seriously play it. I think it's Cing's best game.

I'm still sore that we never got the sequel released here.  :-\

Well, I did just finish Etrian Odyssey 4, and it'd be nice for my next game to not be an RPG. Think I'll do that.  :)

It sucks that we didn't get the sequels for Hotel Dusk or Trace Memory though.

*steps onto stage* Ahem. I believe that Metroid: Other M was, despite the poor storytelling, a lovely and well-done action game. Yes, it strays from the exploration route that is a major pillar of the franchise, but it was a fun game and I personally find to be one of the best in the series. *leaves stage*
