Lost Levels sucks. Mind-numbingly hard just for the sake of being mind-numbingly hard; what's the fun of that?

Really, nothing innovative came out of it either, except maybe the poison mushrooms. It's a pretty mediocre game all around, and we didn't miss a thing by not getting it the first time.

That's why I call if a fanhack. If I played it without knowing, I could easily think it was made by fans just aiming to make a Mario game overly challenging, by means of cheap difficulty.

Spark Of Spirit

I hear a lot of people calling it the "real SMB2" nowadays, and I'm inclined to follow NA canon on this one. If those people had played SMB:LL, they'd know it's not all that fun.

I planned on giving SMB:LL another shot one of these days. But I feel like it would be more like a chore than actual fun.

IIRC Miyamoto's favorite Zelda game is Four Swords Adventure.

He likes picking oddball choices.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

So up to Glitzville in TTYD.

Chapter 1 is a great starting chapter, and it's probably the chapter most like the original game. The writing is funny as always. That boss is viscous, though. Koops is one of the best partners in the game, and his shield ability is the best ability in the game. All in all, a good start.

Chapter 2 is really cute. I enjoyed the puzzle aspect with the Punies, and the art style really shown through here. Madam Flurrie is such a weird character, but she's probably the best on a pure strength basis and for one on one fights. This is where the game starts to separate from it's predecessor.

Chapter 3 is controversial, it seems. I thought it was great. Glitzville is almost like a whole story onto itself that happens to tie into the overall story- it's really cool. Lots of unique characters here, Rawk Hawk, King K, and your little Yoshi pal among them. This chapter is heavily based around combat which is A-okay with me. The combat in this game is second to none.

So far, there aren't really any pacing problems (I know that's up next, though) and the game is easily the best RPG on the Gamecube, but this game is just so much fun to play. Also, if Super Paper Mario played like this:

The game would have been a lot more fun. Bowser's jump is actually good. Oddly enough.

Chapter 1 is just okay, in my opinion. Doesn't compare to PM1's. Also, I hate Boggly Woods. Absolutely hate it. :P

As for Glitzville, it's by far my favorite chapter in the game, and one of my favorite chapters in any game. It's story also vastly surpasses it's main plot, and I might even like it a bit more than SPM's story. In addition, Grubba is one of my favorite video game characters.

A lot of people complain that the gameplay is repetitive. But I enjoy meeting so many different enemies for the first time there.

Glitzville is controversial? I know it was combat heavy, but I thought it was one of the best written chapters in the Paper Mario series. I also love Chapter 2, too. The look of the whole forest and the tree and the entire conflict with the X-Nauts there is just awesome.

Glad to see you're enjoying it so far. I like Chapter 4, but I do think it's the second weakest one in the game. I mean, the conflict is all right, but you have to keep going back and forth between the town and the "dungeon" there.

Personally, Chapter 7 is my least favorite, due to the massive backtracking at the start, and how most of the chapter is spent at the "dungeon", with barely anything plot-related going on except for the scene with TEC and the boss battle.

Spark Of Spirit

Yeah Chapter 4 is probably the worst one so far due to the excessive backtracking.

Which is a shame because everything else about it is really good. If they would have just made you do a dungeon in the steeple instead of walking back and forth while Dooplis hunted you SA-X style, then it probably would have been great. Also I really like Vivian as a partner. Her flame ability and disappearing tricks are really handy to have, and the first time I played it I thought it was genuine surprise that one of your enemies would join your party like that. As I said, I really like the partners in this game.

As it is, good chapter letdown by WAY too much backtracking.

Chapter 5 is great, though.

If it's the one I think it is, then yes it is.

The ending of that chapter is one of the greatest parts in the game.

Chapter 3 >>>>> Chapter 6 >>> Final Chapter > Chapter 5 > Chapter 4 > Chapter 7 >>> Chapter 1 >>> Chapter 2

Spark Of Spirit

Chapter 5 was great. Bobbery was a good partner (I like that they gave him explosion as a regular move, it was why I never used Bombette in PM1) with a good backstory, the crew was funny, and the boss was great. I liked Cortez becoming your ally, reminded me a lot of Johnny from SMRPG which was another good turn.

Chapter 6 might be the single best chapter in any PM game! A good mystery, a colorful cast of characters, and a lot of good humor made it fantastic to play through. The dungeon might have been short, but that didn't bother me since the lack of battles was fresh for a chapter.

The game is shooting uphill after the letdown of chapter 4's backtracking!

Up next is chapter 7!... And I have no idea what to do.

I don't think there is a single chapter in Thousand Year Door that I don't like.

Still my favorite Paper Mario. Just fantastic all the way through (and yes, I like Chapter 4, despite the obvious highlighted issues here; Doopliss, the crow banter, and the music make it all worthwhile).
