amy over shadow? yeah, that's terrible. shadow is one half of sonic adventure 2's greatness while amy has never been good to play as.

Amy was Hard Mode in that game and doesn't play like anyone else in the series.

Shadow was just a Sonic re-skin. He's never been good as anything else.

so was tails in sonic 2. i would rather have someone that played like sonic than a character that's nothing like him. the shadow levels are extra sonic stages at worse.

Everybody in Sonic 3 and Sonic Advance plays like Sonic except with their own quirks. Amy's happened to be no spin dash and having rely on the hammer to do damage. Oh, and she could grind which only Sonic could otherwise do in that game.

Shadow could be replaced by Metal Sonic and nothing in his levels would be different. If you like that, then fine. But I don't.

I didn't mind Shadow's role in Sonic Adventure 2, even though he kind of ended up being the main character over Sonic.

To bring this topic back to Mario, did you play the SM64 remake on the DS, Spark?

Spark Of Spirit

I had to buy something with my launch DS.  ;)

Guess you didn't like it. :P

I don't have it, but based on what I've seen, it did at least fix Bowser's character model. He looked atrocious in the original version. And it's not even that his design is dated. It looked bad back when the game was new. I remember as a little kid seeing him and thinking "Bowser looks weird". :P

i played a little bit of it and not enough to give an opinion.

I like Waluigi. I wouldn't mind some kind of counterpart Super Wario World 3D with Wario, Waluigi, that pirate chick and maybe...  Hinopio. He always looked pretty gnarly. Or Booster, aka Wario 2.0. :P

EDIT: Better yet, make Booster the villain. It'd be perfect.

And yes, I know, wouldn't happen, Square Enix blablablah. But it's a fun idea.

The models were improved, but it was still SM64 only with d-pad controls. For a 3D platformer that isn't Crash Bandicoot, d-pad controls are tough to get used to.

64 DS was okay, but I prefer the original because no 3D game should ever be controlled by a D-pad.

This is pretty much how I felt about 3D Land. Probably the only Mario game I've ever stopped playing out of boredom.

Nel_Annette

Besides the horrid d-pad, I consider the DS version of 64 *the* version, with the extra characters, stages and stars. There's enough extra content that I'd consider it more than "just a port".

gunswordfist

everyone else seems to hate it.

3D Land might as well have been called Galaxy-lite. It played like that game but, instead of being phenomenal, was merely "pretty good". I'd say on par with the original NSMB. I do think it had an awesome final boss battle, though. It was like they took the Bowser fights in the original SMB, and fleshed those out into a full, intense, fast paced and crazy level. And I liked the music in it, how they ditched the simplistic gamey charm of classic Mario and the orchestration of Galaxy and gave it a rock style tune. I'd say, overall, 3D Land has my 3rd favorite final boss fight in the series, beaten only by the two Super Mario World games.

Foggle

Wish I could have made it to the final boss, then. I'm sure this isn't a popular opinion because it got rave reviews, but I honestly found the game to not even approach "pretty good." It lacked the smooth, fast, fluid character control of past 3D Mario games and had utterly sleep-inducing level design IMO. Probably my least favorite Mario platformer I've played.
