:imnothappy: What's with everyone at AR thinking PS1 was mostly a RPG system? I just liked 2 RPGs on it, myself.

A lot of people consider the PS1 to be the JRPG console. It does have quite a lot of high quality - or, at the very least, memorable - entries in the genre.

gunswordfist

It does but of course it had much more than that. Even without RPGs, it had more good games than DreamCast or N64.

If you remove both JRPGs and survival horror titles from the equation, the DC and N64 had about as many good games IMO. But the PS1 definitely had the most in absolute terms.

PS1 good platformers outweigh how many good survival horror games it has (wouldn't that just be 3 RE games and a Silent Hill?)? PS1 had Tomba, Crash, Spyro, Ape Escape, Rayman, Strider 2, Jumping Flash and more.

Fear Effect 1 & 2, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Parasite Eve 1 & 2, Koudelka, Galerians, definitely some others. The PS1 was known for both popularizing and wearing out the survival horror genre in short order.

gunswordfist

I had no clue Fear Effect was a survival horror series  I didn't know what genre to call PE, but I did consider it. Also, I never heard of Koudelka and I have no clue how much Galaerians is liked.

I'm not discounting what you said, I just barely played any of these games.  I'm just mostly going off of the good PS1 games I have played, which are more than the number of good games I played on Dreamcast or N64.

To be honest, I haven't really played any PS1 platformers outside of Crash and Spyro, so we're both guilty of the same thing. ;)

gunswordfist

:) I need to play some of the sequels (Spyro 2, Ape Escape 2 or 3, I forget, complete Crash 2, Tomba 2) or series (Jumping Flash and Strider 2 myself)

First Super Mario Maker course!

It's just a basic SMB1 level with the base tools, but it sure was a lot of fun to make.

The N64's good games are, for the most part, great. But I don't think it has a whole lot below the surface. The PS1 has a lot of quality games. Nintendo really shot themselves in the foot when they chose to stick with cartridges. So many third parties just ditched them, and we can see that they never fully recovered from that.

I also see many say the SNES is. But then again, the SNES is the console for practically anything great. :P

Though to be honest, I'd probably say the same about the PS1.

gunswordfist

I think SNES was the bigger, better RPG console but I barely the genre on both, despite me loving it.

N64 seems to have more top classics than PS1 (Star Fox, Mario 64, Zeldas, Super Smash Bros., Banjos, etc.) but yeah, like I've been saying, overall PS1's library has more good games.

I never really thought about how many bridges Nintendo sticking with cartridges burned. All I know is Squaresoft up and abandoned them, which, once I think about it, was even a bigger blow than just losing out on RPGS (Einhander (my favorite PS1 game), Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi, etc.).

I'll save this for when I pick up the game. Wanted so badly to pre-order, but I'll have to wait a week or two before I can grab it. :( Glad you're having fun!

What's your friend code, btw?

You could argue the same for the PS2 (in both regards) as well. That was just three fantastic console generations in a row.

I can definitely agree with this.

gunswordfist

I still haven't played a good PS2 RPG.
