Looking back at the PS3

Commode

I played the demo to one of the Uncharted games, it was very pretty, but that was really it.  Poster child for all style no substance.

Oh, I don't doubt MGS4 is a good game, but basically being MGS2 Deluxe Edition means I won't be going near it any time soon. Even if it was on the 360, I wouldn't consider it a plus for either system.
:D It's nothing like MGS2.

I've tried some of MGS4 before. Its actually not bad despite me not really being into stealth games. That said its also something that I don't think I could invest a lot of time into. I appreciate how its very open and allows players to treat it like an action TPS if they can't stand stealth (though then it becomes a lot harder than it needs to be, obviously, since its not really meant to be played that way), but overall its just a gameplay style that isn't for me. I respect the game and its level of polish, but yeah, I'm just not into stealth games much like how some people on this board and others that I go to are not into FPS games. Some gameplay styles just don't get me engaged, personally, but that's really all there is to it. I won't deny that its a great game for people who do like that sort of gameplay.

I have played MGS2 in full (and twice, as a matter of fact!) on my XBOX, and it wasn't really a bad game but it certainly wasn't my cup of tea at all. The only reason that I replayed it was because I had played it on Very Easy the first time through since I suck at stealth games and didn't really enjoy it. My older brother actually likes the game though and he recommended that I try it on Normal since its more fun with more challenge. So, I actually did play it on Normal, and I'll admit there were a few instances in the game in which it felt rewarding to pull off some successful stealth using clever tactics and without getting spotted, but overall I just couldn't get into the whole experience at all. What I will say is that I loved some of the side-missions in the game, that were basically like arcade mini-games. To me those were actually more fun than the main game itself.
There's only like two parts where you get punished for not doing stealth in MGS4.

MGS 2 is its own entity, really. None of the other games in the series are much like it.

Honestly, from what I've played (just meaning MGS1 is the only one I haven't played), they are all very different from each other. MGS2 is the one with the most indoors gameplay (which I have a big soft spot for since watching the guards get all series with the Clearing sequences, only to walk right into one of my Claymores is one of the most hilarious things I've ever played through) Controls wise, MGS2 and 3 are very similar but 3 of course mostly in the jungle, very unlike 2, which changes things.

MGS 1 is mostly indoor levels, as well. But it's pretty different from 2 aside from the Tanker portion (which is exactly like the first game but with better graphics).

Yeah, I thought MGS1 was mostly indoors. I've only played the demo....and the part from the demo MGS4 had. That's it.

Spark Of Spirit

I meant MGS2-like when referring to emphasizing the things I don't like about the MGS series. Just like the remake of MGS1, it completely misses what I enjoyed about the 2D games and the first Solid.

Yes, the tanker portion. You know, what people wanted the game to be.

That comparison makes no sense.

I like to pretend that the tanker level is the entire game and it's really just an expansion pack for the first one. Then I pretend that Kojima skipped MGS 2 and went straight to 3 because he likes making his games weird.

Really, 3 is a masterpiece. You should at least play that one sometime.

Me gusta 3. Still say that the game could have benefited from having indoors sequences as good as 2's.

I'm still willing to give 3 a shot because at least he put all his weirdness into another "timeline" instead of cluttering up the main one.

It would be just as weird to me if the Mega Man series went straight to X after Mega Man 6. It's better when they're their own things.

PS3 is also my least used of the consoles but that's mostly because I get most multiplatform games for the 360 for the most part. The only PS3 games I have are:

3D Dot Game Heroes
Assassin's Creed II
Catherine
Heavy Rain
Little Big Planet
Little Big Planet 2
Siren: New Translation

And I downloaded inFamous and Wipeout HD after that whole PSN fiasco. Also downloaded DC Universe after it was made free but haven't played it yet.
