Most Anticipated Movies of 2012

I figured that it would be a good idea to have a thread discussing upcoming movie releases of the year that we may really be looking forward to. They can be big blockbuster releases or small under the scope artistic titles, but basically just talk about any movies that you are eagerly anticipating and if possible post a link to a trailer of it on the chance that you might get someone else interested in it as well.

While there are quite a few movie that I'm anticipating this year, I'll keep my post brief and talk only about 2 obvious big releases that I can't wait to see.

The Avengers- I think that this movie is on just about anyone's radar (unless they just can't stand comic book movies), but for me this is an especially big deal since having a cross-over movie of this magnitude with all of these big-name super heroes will be a great experience for me (assuming that the movie turns out to be as good as it looks). This recent trailer pretty much has me sold that it'll at least be epic enough in the action and scope department, and while it probably can't do the comics the proper justice they deserve (being that it only has about 2 or so hours to have convincing development and interactions between at least 4 big characters while also finding enough time to fit in its big action set-piece scenes and keeping the story at a consistently smooth flowing pace), I trust that the crew of this movie know what they're doing and overall it'll be a great way to celebrate my completion of this college semester (especially since it comes out on the exact day that my finals end ;) ).

The Hobbit: And Unexpected Journey (Part I)- I have always loved the book for its straightforward adventure story and simple but well portrayed themes (more so than The Lord of the Rings book(s), which I liked but which honestly could be rather boring and drag on at times, IMO), and I've waited for what feels like ages to see it adapted onto the big screen in a respectable manner. I'm no Peter Jackson fan but I did like his take on The Lord of the Rings, so if anyone knows what they're doing with J.R.R. Tolkien's treasured work, its him. And, of course, the trailer really conveys a very Tolkien-esque style of story-telling that the movie seems like it will have, and I'm also just really eager to see Ian Mckellen return as Gandalf (as his performance was by far my favorite among The Lord of the Rings cast and characters). I'm also glad that this adaptation is being split up into 2 films, since while I could understand The Lord of the Rings being considerably cut down in length for the film adaptations (which wasn't a problem for me since most of the parts of the book(s) that I personally found boring to read through were cut out), I wouldn't want a single major scene to be left out of The Hobbit, especially since I personally consider it to be the much stronger and more engaging story, myself.

I'll probably post up some more highlights of the year later, when I get the chance. Though, admittedly I'm not very cultured in modern films so most of my choices will be big-name releases rather than some of the more obscure and/or artistic stuff that some of you guys may probably be more in the know about.

Excited as hell for Martin McDonagh's next film, Seven Psychopaths. An absolutely brilliant writer/director with an all-star cast? I expect nothing less than greatness.

Killer Joe sounds exceptional. Can't wait for it to get a non-festival release... which may never happen, since it's rated NC-17.

Hopefully Miike's newest - Lesson Of The Evil - is released this year, but I somehow doubt it will be finished in time. Still quite pumped for it.

Haven't seen anything about the Hobbit movie, really, but I'm sure it'll be absolutely amazing. Don't really give a damn about The Avengers, though that's mostly because I'm pretty burned out on superhero movies. But I'll gladly watch the Deadpool film once it finally comes out.

What about The Dark Knight Rises, EK? I figured that you'd be pumped for that too.

Besides that and Avengers, I can't really think of too many other movies I'm really excited for. Well, other than another Muppets movie has been announced, and I'm definitely up for the Thor and Captain America sequels as well.

Yes, I'm interested in that too, though to be truthful the trailer doesn't give me a good idea of what the movie will be like and I haven't looked up too much info on it so as not to spoil anything for myself, but by that same token not knowing the general story or what to expect means that I have a very vague understanding of what the movie will be like. I suppose that should make me anticipate it more, but its worth mentioning that I felt the same way about The Dark Knight and then walked out of seeing the movie delightfully surprised by just how good it was. To be honest, I can't find it in me to get too excited for The Dark Knight Rises, but I still intend to see it and hopefully going in with moderate expectations will provide the same results as it did for The Dark Knight. I do generally expect the movie to be good, at the very least, though, but for some reason I have my doubts that it'll manage to top The Dark Knight, even though its entirely possible for it to do so.

The trailer actually decreased my interest in The Dark Knight Rises tbh.

Other than the obvious, can't say that I'm really anticipating anything.

Spark Of Spirit

Eh, the trailers for Batman Begins sucked too. These movies don't really lend themselves well to trailers.

I'm interested in Die Hard 5 and a potential Lethal Weapon 5 (written by Shane Black, apparently) for my action fix, but other than that I'm just gonna wait and see.

Isn't Mel Gibson too crazy for that shit?

Anyway, so TDKR comes out this year? I had no clue. Haven't been following. Anyway, that trailer did suck ass but I'm in wait and see mode for that. I'm also going to sit back and see what the word is on The Hobbit and The Avengers.

I haven't seen the trailer for TDKR.

I don't want to, either. I don't like being spoiled like that.

Agreed. They're comic book movies, but they aren't really big action-epics with lots of cool stuff to show to make a trailer look good, unlike stuff like The Avengers and such. Well, that doesn't mean that they can't make an interested and intense trailer, but I have never found any of the trailers for Nolan's movies to be interested in the slightest (this includes both The Dark Knight and Inception, and I ended up liking both movies, even though the latter was insanely overrated).

QuoteWhen you see this movie, kids will believe one day that these turtles do exist, when we're done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

To be fair, the movie will turn out to be complete shit even if he does stay true to the "Mutant" aspect of TMNT, so do you guys really care that something that was already destined to suck may just turn out to suck harder? :>
