I mean, I'm not a guy who's all about graphics. But atmosphere is incredibly important here and the graphics really make that element even stronger than it already was.
Same here. But I think, if there's any genre that graphics are legitimately important in, it's horror. I'm not speaking in terms of technical fidelity (Fatal Frame 1 and even Silent Hill 1 are still impressive), but a good lighting engine and atmospheric artistic design go a long way toward improving the experience. For instance, the lighting in the PC version of The Evil Within is so sublime that playing it almost felt like a completely different experience from the PS3 version.

Shame that 0 isn't popular enough to receive the same treatment. Until I saw this HD port, that's the only game besides 4 that I would have considered saying looks better than REmake. It would benefit just as beautifully from this.
Actually, I've heard rumors that Capcom is planning on porting RE0 to PC/PS4/XBONE next. And yes, I'd agree that the graphics in that game are amazing, as well.

I really want to play REmake, but I've temporarily banned myself from gaming, so it won't be for at least a few months.

Oh, just a quick note: when you play REmake HD, make sure to use the full frame option instead of the widescreen option when selecting how the screen should display the game. Widescreen zooms in on the picture, ruining some of the beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds.

Aw, that's too bad! Hopefully you'll like it, though. And just so you know, there's a new non-tank control scheme in there! :)

I think I'd rather just get used to the tank controls. I just don't feel satisfied unless I play the game the way that it was meant to be played, at least on my initial playthrough. I did the same thing for DMC3, when I first played it on Yellow Orb mode.

Honestly, the only old-school thing that may bug me about the game isn't the tank controls or limited inventory. Believe it or not, it's the Ink Ribbons, mainly because I'm a save freak, but any game that gives me limited saves makes me too over-cautious and paranoid, to the point where I won't know when it's appropriate to save or not, for fear of running out of Ink Ribbons.

Foggle

I believe that all but two of the typewriters in the game have three ink ribbons lying right next to them, so as long as you make sure you always have at least one left over, you shouldn't find yourself running out. I know I was worried about the same thing when I first got into the series, but it's mostly a non-issue to be honest, since you can usually save once every 10 minutes and still have a few left over when you finish the game.

Hopefully! RE0 has a really nice atmosphere (to the point of being a little dependent on it, as I feel the gameplay is pretty run of the mill, average Resident Evil). And a big reason for that is the visuals. It would be really nice for RE0 to get an update of its own, and I'd really like to own all three GC games on PC.

It seems like this port is getting critically acclaimed, which is a pleasant surprise. I would've expected it to get panned, with journalists talking about how it's a "sad reminder of RE's clunkier days" and that "they should have remade it RE4 style" and that "you'll regret every saying you think RE should go back to its old ways". I suppose its a different climate for horror games these days.

Foggle

It's a damn good remaster of one of the greatest games of all time. I always knew it'd be well-received. ;)

talonmalon333

I agree 100%, but it does sometimes seem like critics just hate classic RE for its controls, while not understanding why those work. I know they did that with Code: Veronica HD, saying things like "you'll never wish for classic RE again after replaying this", which was funny since that came like 5-6 years after RE4 and most fans had already gone back to replay at least one old game. Most fans that ever wanted RE to return to its old style have done their homework and know how the old games still play. They don't just blindly say "I want old RE back, even though I haven't replayed any of those games since 4". :P

To be honest, if Code Veronica was my first experience with classic RE since 4 came out, I probably would have said the same thing...

You what I mean. They are talking about the style, not the gameplay. :srs:

Also, Code: Veronica is the true Resident Evil 3. :>

and re3 is a prequel and sequel to re2, according to foggle or you.

For Revelaitons 2, they have changed Claire's voice actress, after like 20 years. Apparently their reasons was that she's no longer a teenager... Ignoring the fact that her original voice actor is, like, in her 40s now. And that this game is only a few years after she appeared in Degeneration.

Claire probably had the best voice acting of anyone in these games, so it's a shame that her voice is different now, more so than any other voice changes we've got so far.

Foggle

QuoteYes, yes, Revelations 2 will have micro transactions. You will be able to buy weapons, abilities and life crystals with real money. You will also be able to buy the weapons and abilities in Assault mode, with items obtained during normal gameplay OR with real money, this means you are NOT forced to pay for anything if you don't want it. IF you want to pay for the weapons, the option is there.

Then there's life crystals. The checkpoints in Revelations 2 are at the start of each level, exactly like in Revelations 1. If the stage takes about 20 minutes, and you die after 18 minutes, you will have to repeat the entire section, something that not everyone likes, but you can get some life crystals daily OR you can pay real money so you can go back to the section you died without any penalty.

Literally. Microtransactions. In a survival horror game.

Resident Evil is dead. It's over; it's never coming back.

talonmalon333

Wait, I'm confused. There have been Resident Evil games released since RE4?
