Yeah, it sounds great so far. Up there with 1, 2, and 4 for sure.

Let's not get carried away. In spite of everything we hear, it's still Capcom. :P

E3 trailer. Beware of spoilers, it's loaded with them.

THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!

Haven't watched the trailer yet, but I wasn't happy about that demo showed off during the Microsoft E3 press conference. I'm still absolutely sure that its not reflective of the whole game and it was just a move for the sake of presentation rather than actual gameplay, but as you all know, I'm not a fan of highly scripted set-piece events, and that demo was almost 100% scripted, which is a real turn-off for me. I wouldn't mind seeing a more slow, methodically paced demo at some point later down the road.

Foggle

They probably just showed that bit off for the "wow" factor, since that's what people are looking for these days. Remember, that level takes place immediately after Leon arrives in China; it would make sense for a major scenery transition like that to start off with a bang, scripted or not.

I have faith that the full game will be much better.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Yeah, same here. The reason I'm not worried is because I know that Resident Evil 4 was full of scripted moments as well. That stuff is there purely for crowd-pleasing, honestly. I am still really positive that the main game won't be so heavily scripted. Also, many journalists got to play an early demo of the game a few months ago and confirmed that what they played was still atmospheric like classic RE, and wasn't so heavily QTE-ridden, so we already know that this game sports classic gameplay elements. This demo was just more of a glorified trailer to show off to the larger public.

Foggle

And if any game does scripted moments right, it's RE 4. They may be little more than glorified cutscenes, but the knife fight and laser room (along with a couple of other bits) are still extremely memorable.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Yeah, even to this day they still feel completely fresh and bad-ass in that game. Most modern games can't even get scripted events right. So much of it has that "been there, done that" feel to it, yet somehow people like such boring scripted events that can't even take advantage of the fact that they are scripted. I mean, if they are going to go all out to make you play the way they want you to, at least have the events feature some bizarre shit that actually manages to wow the player. Don't make it some generic action at a cinematic camera angle in an attempt to make uninspired actions seem cool, because it just doesn't work (at least not for me).

I think that after games like RE4 and HL2 made scripted events so popular in games, so many other games tried to mimick them while completely missing the point of what made scripted events in those games so bad-ass in the first place: their set-piece moments were actually inspired and completely awesome, and they weren't over-used to death, so encountering them sparingly between intense battles made them seem all the more welcome, and they never took precedence over the main gameplay.

Honestly, my growing tired of how scripted games are is another reason I was so excited for Devil's Third, which is what Itagaki built it up to be, and made sure that people were aware that it was not so control-heavy on the player in the vein of shooters like Call of Duty and the like. I was SO damn hyped up to see the game finally shown off at this year's E3, and what do you know? Just my (and Itagaki's, I suppose  ) luck. THQ called quits on the game at the last minute and now the game has to find a new publisher fast, or risk cancellation, and if that happens then I'm completely done with modern games in general (except for Nintendo, of course). After how NG3 turned out, all this news is just too much heart-break for me to handle. :whuh:

Extra (short) footage from E3. Looks MUCH better than what was shown at the Microsoft conference. Only a single QTE in sight, and it's the SHAKE THE ZOMBIES OFF YA one featured in every game.

Great RE 6 interview. Allays most of my fears from the gameplay shown thus far. Definitely worth a watch for fans.

talonmalon333

Haven't seen it yet, but does it contain spoilers?

Foggle

The interview? No, not really. The trailer? Somewhat. You really should watch both, though.

Capcom has unveiled the Resident Evil Anthology for PS3. It includes RE Director's Cut, 2, 3, 4 HD, 5 Gold Edition, and (of course) 6 for $90. The lack of Code Veronica and Chronicles is a bit dumb as PS3 ports exist for them already, but this is a still a great deal for people who are just starting the series with 6!

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Well, too bad its not on the XBOX360, otherwise I would have totally hit that up (assuming that they were all good ports).

There's an Xbox version, but it's horrible by comparison. It contains Code Veronica HD (probably my least favorite RE game), 4 HD (which you already own), 5 Gold Edition (which is only good in co-op), Degeneration (TERRIBLE movie), and 6.

I really hope they release a PC version with new (read: good) ports of 1-4 and 5's DLC... but that's probably (definitely) too much to ask. :(
