It's a bad game, but it has a few really good levels. I picked up the Steam version for $10 (thank you Green Man) and I'd say it's worth about that for the fun chapters, but no more. The PC port blows the console versions out of the water, btw. 60 FPS makes a big difference in RE6.

Gotcha. To be honest I'm in no rush to get it and don't see myself doing so in the near future. But it's good to know for the future when I likely will get it. Care to give it a rating, in comparison to previous RE games? :P

Well, I stand by both my positive review of 7/10 and negative review of 3/10, so... 5/10, I guess? Only about 6 of the 20 levels are particularly fun, but now that Ada's campaign is unlocked by default, you don't have to play Jake's awful scenario at all. So, all in all... at least it's better than 5.

But you'd probably be better off getting Revelations on Steam (or PS3, or 360, or 3DS) instead. Just pretend that one's the only Resident Evil game Capcom's made since RE4; your life will be better for it.

Sounds good. Do Revelaitons HD and RE6 start with online/local multiplayer, or do you have to unlock them? How does the multiplayer work with Ada's scenario, being that it was initially single player from what I hear?

By the way, speaking of Resident Evil 5, I noticed something earlier that I wanted to bring up in this thread. I imagine you remember this scene from the game.

That shot was taken from a fairly early trailer, released in what looks like the year 2007.

Now here's that same exact shot, only in the actual game:

The image that appears in the actual game looks like a noticeable downgrade in graphical quality (or at least, in the lighting). What's with the drop?

Revelaitons HD

I have no idea about Revelations HD since it's not out yet. There's no main game co-op in the 3DS version, though, and you have to unlock the multiplayer mode by beating the story. RE6 has multiplayer unlocked by default, as well as Mercenaries mode, but you have to beat the various campaigns to unlock more characters and maps for it.

In single player, Ada's campaign is completely solo. In multiplayer, a nondescript soldier referred to as Agent is her co-op partner.

Technical limitations, probably. The top picture is likely taken from "target footage", meaning that it was not recorded in real-time from the actual game engine, and exists only to show what the developers hoped the finished product would look like. RE5 already chugs quite a bit on consoles (24 FPS with drops IIRC), so I assume Capcom was unable to reach that level of graphical fidelity with the current (previous?) generation's hardware.

I actually forgot the HD version isn't out yet. Also, at this point I just refer to it as "Revelaitons" without even thinking anymore. :awesome:

Glad that RE6 does start with it though. If I do end up getting it for cheap someday (which if it does happen, definitely won't be till after I play Revelaitons), I'll be playing it multi-player. Just judging from what you and most say about the game, I highly doubt I'll have the patience to go through it alone. :P

I had a feeling it was like that. At the very least though, RE5 still had excellent graphics for a console game, and I think it still looks great to this day.

By the way, that top picture came from this trailer from July 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4YRGtI3Pwg

I have to say, seeing that trailer again kind of takes me back (back to when RE5 looked awesome, and back to when this franchise could get me legitimately pumped :humhumhum:). The footage shown in it really made the world of RE5 look bleak and desolate yet savage. Definitely seemed better than the ending result, which just has such a generic flavor.

Foggle

Yep, the original version of RE5 probably would have been amazing. Instead we got an amateur mod for RE4. Oh well.

Resident Evil 5 definitely has some of the highest quality graphics of any game this gen. It actually looks better than its sequel (srsly, wtf)! But excellent graphics are pointless if the game itself is subpar.

I'm not even totally sure what went wrong. I do think that trailer made the game look scarier. But to be honest, I think it might've been Sheva. Once they threw her into the game so late in development and suddenly decided to make the game revolve around multiplayer, it must've changed a lot and screwed up the progress they were making, to the point where single player mode is barely even playable now.

Yeah, I found it weird when I heard RE5 has better graphics than 6. :??:

Foggle

You can certainly blame the forced co-op for single player being awful, but the game itself is just so... bland in comparison to the original trailer. Many segments of the first third are almost literally copy-pasted from RE4, while the last third is one of the most dire cover shooters ever. And while the middle portion of the game is actually pretty good, it's still lacking in atmosphere and creativity. I don't think you can blame the lazy level design and boring boss fights on Sheva's addition.

There are quite a few sub-Wii textures in RE6. It's kind of sad.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

I swear to god, as soon as my semester is over and I manage to get a job, I am totally buying myself a cheap, used Gamecube (in good working condition, of course), and then I'm going to buy used copies of all of the RE games released for the GC, including even the lesser liked RE0, just so that I can play all of the main titles that the classic series has to offer.

Foggle

Honestly, it'd probably be cheaper to buy a used PS2 instead. The GameCube ports of 2, 3, and CVX are extremely expensive and very hard to find in shops. Sure, you won't be able to play REmake or 0, but the PS2 also has God Hand and Ratchet & Clank and God Hand/R&C >>>> all.

Also, I have extra copies of RE2 and 3 for PS1 that I could totally mail you. ;)

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Well, I could always just borrow my brother's PS2.

But if he gets a GameCube, he can finally play Twilight Princess.

Actually, I'd even recommend skipping over GC and saving up for a Wii, which are little more than $50 on Amazon.com.

Foggle

Yeah, I'd definitely buy a used Wii instead of a used GameCube. It's not much more expensive, and that way you basically get two consoles in one.
