Hey Foggle, you have the Steam release of RE4, right? What's the best way to play it. As in, what's the best controller for RE4, or is it best to play with a keyboard and mouse?

Foggle

Xbox 360 controller. Keyboard/mouse doesn't work too well for RE4, unfortunately. Xbone controller probably works too.

That's a bit of a surprise. Didn't 6 play well with a keyboard and mouse?

Also, does it have the GameCube difficulty? Or is it easier like the Wii version?

Yes, but 6 also plays completely differently from 4. 6's control scheme is so complicated that it feels like it was designed with a keyboard in mind, while 4's camera system only really works with a controller.

It's supposedly just a straight port of the PS360 version (so only slightly less difficult than on the GC), but my last playthrough attempt was possibly even easier than the Wii version. I believe that was a glitch, though, from what I've read.

I forget, do you currently like 6, Foggle?

I like the core gameplay mechanics. It's honestly one of the deepest third-person shooting games on the market in that regard. But the level/enemy/encounter design are so generic/bad that the replay value is rendered nonexistent, and more discerning players than myself would probably hate it even on their first playthrough. Also, Jake's campaign is the shittiest interactive movie QTE-fest I've ever slogged through (even worse than the last third of Indigo Prophecy), and the story is garbage even by RE standards.

If you can find 6 for $5 or less, and REALLY love RE, maybe go ahead and pick it up. Chris' campaign is a pretty decent time, especially in co-op. Leon's and Ada's campaigns even have moments of legitimate greatness (after a very rocky start to the former), but they unfortunately turn into complete shit in their final levels. That said, The Evil Within features its own renditions of almost all of RE6's best stages - and does them better - so maybe you should just buy that game instead. Try to play it on PC or current-gen if you can; last-gen port isn't horrible, but TEW is a much better game when you can experience the higher frame rate and AMAZING lighting engine. Try the PC demo to see if it'll run for you! [/paidadvertisement]

Really though, RE6 is a bad game with good aspects. I'd say it's overhated, but not underrated. It's a mediocre TPS with some truly excellent moments and a lot of terrible ones. It was easy to get caught up in the hype (either positively or negatively) upon the game's release, but the truth is that it defines mediocrity more than anything else. It's kind of like Duke Nukem Forever in that regard.

I was a lot more hyped for 5, though, since that was following 4 and looked better from the initial trailers. Being that 6 was following 5, some of my faith had already been diminished.

Understandable. Unfortunately, I fell for Capcom's marketing techniques, and the fact that Revelaitons was almost a return to form certainly helped.

Would you say 6 is at least better than 5?

The single-player is a lot less annoying, but from an objective standpoint, no; 5 is a much better game in most aspects.

That's sad. I didn't want to think they would get worse than RE5's incredibly dull level design and story.

But I do suppose it's not bad on multi-player.

Quote"Survival horror as a genre is never going to be on the same level, financially, as shooters and much more popular, mainstream games. At the same time, I think we need to have confidence to put money behind these projects, and it doesn't mean we can't focus on what we need to do as a survival horror game to meet fan's needs."

Not sure if there is or isn't hope yet for RE7. But I just thought I'd post this.

That looks really good. The graphical updates are clear and the usage of shadows just heightens the game's incredible atmosphere. I always felt REmake was possibly the 2nd best looking game in the series, after RE4. Does this HD version put it above even that game (unless RE4 for PC receives equal enhancements)?

The new controls do look a little goofy and unnatural. But overall, I'm going to get this on Steam for sure, and am honestly looking forward to the day when I replay this game, in HD.

Foggle

I've played about 10 minutes of REmake HD so far. (Yes, only 10.) Overall, the graphics look AMAZING - easily the series' best, even compared to RE5 and 6 - and the gameplay feels incredibly fluid. I can't comment on the new control scheme, though; I'm using the Original setting (tank controls).

talonmalon333

I mean, I'm not a guy who's all about graphics. But atmosphere is incredibly important here and the graphics really make that element even stronger than it already was.

Shame that 0 isn't popular enough to receive the same treatment. Until I saw this HD port, that's the only game besides 4 that I would have considered saying looks better than REmake. It would benefit just as beautifully from this.
