Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX: Victory!!!!....or not

Katniss and Peeta are lifted out of the arena via hovercraft, Peeta passing out from bloodloss. The two are hauled down to a medical facility where Katniss is imediately drugged. An indeterminate period of time passes as the two recover. All of the burns and scars Katniss accrued as well as the hearing in her left ear are healed. This whole bit once again reminds me of the Emerald City scene from Wizard of Oz where Dorothy and the gang are scrubbed up completely for their meeting with the Wizard.

Eventually Katniss is released for her post-Games interview with Flickerman. But not before Haymitch gives her a warning. The Capital is not thrilled with her actions in the arena. In fact they're down right pissed about it. The only way to keep herself alive is to play the angle that the two were so madly in love that the decision to use the nightlock was influenced purely by it.

Katniss is now scared out of her wits. Instead of feeling safe, she's put herself in an even more dangerous position than in the arena. The lights come on and its time for the interview. Someone's going to have to pay.

FINAL CHAPTER: Regret

Again not a whole lot to go about on this chapter. The tribunes first watch a highlight film of the hunger games (cue highlight film music) and are invited to dinner at the President's House and its not a pleasant experience. Katniss finds herself locked in her room, adding to her growing sense of paranoia.

The interview with Flickerman goes smoothly, with Katniss delivering the lines she's supposed to deliver well, possibly saving both of their lives. Finally they leave the Capitol... the nightmare is over, or is it?

You see there's one big revelation left... Haymitch basically lied to Katniss through the whole book. Peeta's emotions were for real, he was never coached into this angle by Haymitch. Hell he didn't even know their lives were in jeopardy even after the games. If anybody was coached it was Katniss through Haymitch's deceptions. Katniss reveals this to Peeta and he doesn't take it well. For him its a rejection of his love for Katniss since she was playing a part for the cameras. The train finally comes to District 12 but Peeta's lost his emotion for Katniss, its strictly business now... for the cameras.

Well Katniss... you've got 700 more pages to atone, better get started...

THE END OF THE HUNGER GAMES
