It'd bring a crime if they didn't get as many composers as they could for Smash 4. Smash Bros. is always a big event, and there are quite a few composers that I would like to see compose their own takes on Nintendo songs.

I have been wondering about the soundtrack, though. How can they really top Brawl's? About the only loss from Melee was that they dropped Fourside. Can you really top Corneria (SNES), Yoshi's Island, Gangplank Galleon, Stickerbrush Symphony, Butter Building, and even the Melee soundtrack included. It's just hard to imagine what else is really left to add outside of a handful of tracks. Hopefully they don't lock the music to one stage this time. At least lock it to franchise if they must.

I liked Melee's soundtrack more than Brawl's.

Contrarianist opinion; Brawl is overrated. I had so much more fun with Melee than I ever did with Brawl. Subspace was as boring a slog as they come, and most of the soundtrack didn't really strike a chord with me to be honest.

Yeah............I fucking said it. *boos rain down from audience*

This actually seems to be the general consensus amongst my friends and people I see talking about SSB online.

Brawl has the entire Melee soundtrack other than Fourside and tons of new tracks. I don't see how it is a better soundtrack, honestly.

And if you main certain characters, Melee is a real slog to play since about every battle is a chore.

New stage announced for the 3DS version:

Lumiose City from Pokemon X & Y. Pokemon stages in the Smash Bros. series are usually really fun though I've always found Poke Floats incredibly dull. So I guess these games ARE getting stages from the newest games in each series? Usually Smash Bros. is a game behind.

Ooh, Lumiose City should be a fun one! Glad to see they are incorporating stages from newer games now.  :)

A lot of Brawl's remixes are kind of weak, I think. They just lack any punch and miss what was so good about their original versions, especially remixes such as its version of Kirby 64's final boss theme.

Then you have Melee's soundtrack, which is unforgettable. Themes like these just stick to me.

I'm sure that's not even all of them.

Most of the tracks that I like and utilized in Brawl were the ones that were carried over from Melee and various games. I can't think of any remixes that I loved besides Luigi's Mansion.

EDIT:

As for my opinion on the two games as a whole... Brawl is better suited for playing for long periods at a time. Melee is more fun to play in shorter periods.

Corneria
Yoshi's Island
Stickerbrush Symphony
Butter Building
Pokemon Main Theme
Angel Island Zone
Waluigi Pinball
Unfounded Revenge/Smashing Song of Praise
Type B
Dark World

I personally find the remixes amazing, PLUS it has the Melee soundtrack. Not seeing a downside here.

A lot of those remixes, in my opinion, just aren't on the same level as their originals, such as the Dark World and Stickerbrush Symphony.

Also, giving credit where credit is due, I can't credit Brawl for its Melee tracks. It feels like calling the PS2 better than the PS1 simply because it can play PS1 games.

If we're going to pick single examples than I can say I don't like Melee's Green Greens, Mother 2, or Mute City tracks and find the originals much better.

I find all of those remixes excellent, personally. Corneria alone pretty much blows away any Star Fox theme in the series and Butter Building is my favorite Kirby remix ever. I also really like the Stickerbrush Symphony and Dark World remixes because they fit perfectly with the stages they're in especially the latter.

The point is that Brawl gives me the opportunity to use Melee's tracks if I want them. Melee does not give me the option of even using Smash 64's tracks. More options are always welcomed. That's like saying they might as well have not even included the Melee soundtrack since it makes no difference either way that they're there in the first place. I disagree, I think the option is a plus and point in its favor.

Anybody hoping for specific returning stages from Brawl?

I'm hoping for Lylat Cruise, Pirate Ship, Yoshi's Island, Pokemon Stadium 2, Luigi's Mansion, Delfino Plaza, and Green Hill. Those were by far my favorite stages from Brawl.

As for what I hope doesn't come back? Well...

The Halberd - This pains me as a Kirby fan, but I really didn't care for this level much and most of the music just didn't fit.
New Pork City - I can't see anything.
Port Town Aero Dive - Big Blue has always been my go-to F-Zero stage.
Sky World - Those platforms are the worst.
75m - This doesn't work on any level. Extremely annoying to play.
Rumble Falls - The worst Smash Bros stage next to Venom and Brinstar Depths. Any stage that doesn't have any consistent layout at any point drives me crazy, never mind throwing in far too many obstacles to enjoy.

I'd love for Shadow Moses Island, Castle Siege, Bridge of Eldin, Luigi's Mansion, and both of the Metroid Stages to return.

I liked the look of the Halberd, so I hope it returns in some capacity, albeit, in a different form than what Brawl offered. Maybe have you fight insidee the Halberd, or directly on it ala the Great Fox?

Rumble Falls is a meh stage, but its music selection was awesome.

Spark Of Spirit

Shadow Moses was a good level, but I don't see it coming back without Snake.

I think that helps my dislike of it.

If I could have at least used Gangplank Galleon on Pirate Ship it would have helped.

I love Halberd and Port Town Aero Dive! But those other stages you listed are all terrible, yeah. I'd also add Mario Bros., Electroplankton (I forget this one is even in the game most of the time), and Mushroomy Kingdom to that list. Awful stages.

Weak dude. Mute City and Port Town are so much better than Big ZZZZZZZZZ.

Port Town could probably be shrunk a bit though, that road was huge in Brawl.
