This is definitely going to be one of those "I really love" or "I really hate" things, no in between. I've been a Bebop fan for many years and sadly think that I'm going to fall into the "hated it" side because there is just no way to remake what I call a perfect show and have it come out just as good. I will give it a try, but I am very, very skeptical.

Wow. Ed isn't even in it?

She shows up late in the series, they might be saving her for their second season.

I do have to wonder, are the characters going to wear the same outfit every episode? Because that obviously works for a cartoon, but will be harder to defend in live-action.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Even in the show, they changed clothes from time to time, Faye and Jet the most frequently, so I'm sure they won't be wearing their standard outfits all the time in the live-action series either.

Personally, I like Faye's new look and I find Daniella Pineda's snark very endearing and befitting of the character, so I'm looking forward to her portrayal personally. I think Cho and Shakir look cool as Spike and Jet too. Any live-action of an animated show is gonna look a little bit cartoonish, I think the outfits find a happy medium in being faithful and believable. And Ein looks adorable!

I dunno, I'm willing to give the show a shot just off the cast. I love Bebop and don't expect a live-action remake to be on par with much less outdo the original, but I still think it could be a fun show.

I am disappointed Ed's not gonna be in the show though, at least not in this first season from what we can tell. I hope they put them in a potential second season if one gets made.

Wanna see a shot for shot remake of the Cowboy Bebop opening?

I think a comment I saw on Twitter summed this up best "This looks like something you would see on 2013 YouTube made by an rookie & would be featured on a bunch of nerd blogs for how cool looking it was."

Having not seen the show in around eight years, and with the Netflix trailer of the live remake released I went back and watched the series now they put it on Netflix as well. It still holds up well after all this time. I think this was the first time I ever binged watched it in one weekend. My brother had borrowed the DVD set from a friend back in the late Aughties but I didn't watch all of it with him because I'd had burned myself out a little off the Adult Swim reruns.

Anyway, watching it all at once really helps you focus in more on all the hints that were given about Spike's past. He was friends with Viscious, raised by Mao Yen Rai, got injured from a botched hit job, met Julia and Spike carried on an affair with her. Although, I kind of wonder if Spike intentionally cheated with Julia or if he didn't know she was with Viscous until he walked in on them. It never shows that, but I can't help finding it possible.

Something I always loved about the show that's similar to why I loved the OG Teen Titans series is how Jet, Faye and Ed's episodes feel like completely different genres to Spike's and the general episodes. All of Jet's are film noir detective stories, Faye's are a tragic melancholy drama, and Ed's are just straight up enjoyable goofy comedies.

To be honest, like Foggle my opinions have since changed on Spike's ending. I used to believe it was impossible for him to still be alive and depleted the show. But now I've come around to thinking if the creator himself believes he lived, then he lived. And having time to think more on it I actually do think it makes sense. Yeah, Viscous' men were all right there in front of Spike.....but binging through made me remember that, oh yeah he was in the same faction as Viscous. Which means since both he and The Van are all dead, Spike is next in the line of secession. Not that he would want anything to do with the Red Dragons after everything, but that possibility came to mind. Sadly, while it means he eventually goes back and rejoins Jet and Faye its not like he's going to have a happy ending. Whatever chance there was of him getting with Faye died off somewhere around between her getting her memory back and his losing Julia. They have WAY too much baggage to be in any kind of healthy relationship.

The most he has going for him is just rounding up bounty-after-bounty with her and Jet, but that just means he's doomed to be in perpetual state of poverty as I doubt killing Vicious and avenging Julia would impede his recklessness. In fact, being permanently separated from Julia now by death makes the ending even more tragic. If anything, I don't see him living to be very old after going back out on the Bebop.

That's... different, I'll give it that.

Before the show came out, I predicted Ed would be the worst character because none of the trailers or promo material acknowledged her existence. I was right.

GregX

Well....

That was definitely something that somebody spent millions of dollars on.

I have to admit, I'm slightly surprised. It sounded like this was at least a hit, and some people did actually like it.

But it must have cost too much to make a profit.

If anything, I thought they would renew it for another season if only out of pure spite. Does make me wonder how the One Piece series is gonna last though.
